Continue to notice in Preview that my fonts look thicker and clunkier and colors look brighter (too sharp) than originally created in EW. (Right now I've been sticking with web-safe fonts though I'm starting to look at what's offered by Google—sounds like with them I'll need to insert code for some of the Light versions, such as Open Sans.) Until now I've been using an orange-yellow type on a medium-blue background. When I experimented, putting a dark blue type on a medium cream background, the effect was clearly better—what I saw in Preview looked crisper, the fonts looked thin the way they're supposed to. Has anyone else run into this—that color choice can screw things up? Am reluctant to change my colors to improve readability but may have to... Last edit 12 years ago |

I was actually writing a page for the Codebox website today about readability so it's still fresh in my mind. A lot of people who create websites don't seem to consider the fact that their use of quirky fonts and colored backgrounds make their pages unreadable for a lot of people. There are no rules but there are sensible guidelines. Why would anybody in their right mind use pink text on a pale blue background? Well, believe it or not, some do. Unless you have a good sense of color. I would advise sticking with black text on an off white background (#FEFEFE) or an almost black background with off white text - #EEEEEE to #CCCCCC. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb!
