Viewing get a Favicon

get a Favicon

User: Eric L. 10 years ago
Hi
I used to have a favicon on my iWeb site using Rage's SEO Tools Program - nice an easy - just add an image and it worked. I assumed this would be included in EverWeb, but apparently - on the list of things to come. That's Ok it's no big deal, but I believe it can be done now, but not sure exactly how to do it and where to add image and code.
Maybe someone can explain in layman's terms (Idiot's guide) please.
thanks

Do you have an image file ending in .ico to be used for the favicon?

If not you can make on here;

http://www.degraeve.com/favicon/index.php

Once you have your file name it favicon.ico and add it to your Assets list in EverWeb.

Then paste this code into the Head Code section of EverWeb (in the Publish Settings section)

Next right click your favicon.ico file in the Assets list and select "Copy Relative Path"

Then paste the copied path where it says REPLACE HERE in the above code snippet (the code you put in the Head Code section)

Remember once you publish your site you may need to empty the cache in your web browser to make sure it appears, or visit;

http://www.yourdomain.com/favicon.ico

Replacing yourdomain.com with your actual domain name.

Paul, what code? The code that results from using the degreave link? I tried that but it didn't work for me. Also that code does not say anywhere "REPLACE HERE" Sorry. What am I missing?

Thanks

I fixed the broken link on my previous post so that you can get to the page with the link to an .ico convertor.

If you publish to a server other than the EverWeb one, uploading the favicon.co to the root folder is sufficient nowadays. There's usually no need to insert the link as modern browsers will look for the favicon in the root.

EverWeb takes care of this for under File->Edit Publishing Settings. You will see the favicon option there and EverWeb will convert most images for you automatically to the proper format.

I tried having EW created the favicon from two different .png files and both displayed blurry.
