Viewing Creating Mobile Web Sites

Creating Mobile Web Sites

User: James R. 12 years ago
I am in the process of converting from iWeb to Everweb. Before I get too deep into the weeds on this, I need to know something.
Google Analytics is telling me that an ever increasing percentage of my hits are coming from mobile devices.

When I am setting up my site on EasyWeb, do I need to be making 2 of the same pages, one for the regular site and an identical page set as a mobile page and mobile redirect. All of this would be in one folder and uploaded that way?

Thank you.

It wouldn't be an identical page. It would be a page that is optimized for mobile devices. That means it has a smaller width, larger and less text and scrolls top to bottom to display content.

Then you would select this mobile page under the Page options in the Inspector. See this tutorial;

I am having the same issue. I followed the directions according to your help video. Comes up great on the desktop computer, but says "page not found" on my iPhone

Mobile websites are only guaranteed to work with our one-click publishing. Although it should work with most web hosting providers we can't make an guarantees because they may have certain features disabled on their end. It is impossible for us to know how every web hosting service is set up. The majority of web hosts do appear to support it though.

We cannot provide support for third party web hosting servers unfortunately.

Please just let me know if you think this a little out of order saying this. I'm confused as to how you can sell the standalone version of the software but without guaranteeing the same functionality as the hosted version i.e. mobile websites may not work. I'd say the mobile website function is pretty paramount for any serious user. And given I'm happy with my current hosting solution which gives me unlimited space for unlimited websites as opposed to 2GB for your basic package, I find this a little odd and indeed off-putting. I just wanted to understand your reasoning for this as I was tempted to buy your software until I saw this in the forum...

Some web host disable features on their server which make it impossible for these things to work properly.

In addition some may not support technologies needed to do this kind of stuff. That being said, most web hosts will support mobile sites.

We don't limit the software for other web hosting providers, we just provide a one-click solution for convenience for users who don't want to be bothered by technical issues such as this one.

Server space and bandwidth are not the only things to consider when selecting a web hosting provider.

Thanks for the reply Paul. Is there a particular question I should ask my provider or should I just ask if they support mobile sites?

They need to support Javascript redirects. Most web hosts do, it is likely yours will work. We have just seen some web hosting providers where the Mobile sites don't redirect properly. The actual mobile site works fine. It could be due to certain restrictions from the web host or to user error when uploading.

If you use our one-click publishing solution everything will work without any issues. With third party FTP clients we just can't help if it doesn't work because we don't have access to your server or know the server set up. It is very complex and impossible to know how every server works.

So to sum up, it should work fine, but any issues you have regarding it (beyond how to set it up) has to go through your web hosting provider.
