Viewing Transferring files from iWeb

Transferring files from iWeb

User: DJ R. 10 years ago
This may be a shot in the dark, but is there anyway to transfer my iWeb site to EverWeb?

I have a very large business website that would take a long time to re-build.

Any suggestions?

Roddy thanks for the link - I suspect DjR may be in the same boat as me in that I have thousands of pages of content to transfer and it would take weeks to do it using the method proscribed in the vid - not just page by page but item by item...

there has to be another option

Is anyone working on a Domain file (native iWeb format file) import routine?

Thanks

The question has been asked before in this forum.

EverWeb and iWeb have a lot of similarities on the surface but they are completely different under the hood.

Even if it were possible to convert an iWeb domain.sites2 package to the EverWeb format, it wouldn't be very sensible since iWeb built sites are rapidly becoming redundant.

iWeb users are reporting problems with their sites when viewed in the latest version of Internet Explorer and this will only get worse as time goes by. Recreating your site in EverWeb will make it future proof and a lot more efficient.

If an existing site has hundreds - or thousands - of pages, presumably it was created in sections? In this case the site can be rebuilt - section by section - over a period of time.

During the transition period, the sections would be interlinked using external hyperlinks in the navigation of both sites.

Rebuilding is not a good answer. iWeb users don't care about the technical difficulties; that's what software guys do. If EverWeb figures out an easy way to port an iWeb site into EverWeb, sales will go thru the roof. iWeb still works; it's days might be numbered, but for now there's no pressing reason to go to all the effort to rebuild. I think I'll wait until EverWeb (or someone else) provides an EasyTransition, or until the last nail is placed on iWeb's coffin.

How about mobile websites, retina websites, drop down menus, image sliders, built in SEO, mouse over affects, HTML5 Video/Audio, contact forms, faster websites, and guaranteed updates? (to name a few)

Even without importing iWeb sites it is very easy to transfer your iWeb site over;
Rebuild your iWeb site in EverWeb

Plus wait until you see the next few updates! :)
