Viewing Embedding YouTube Video

Embedding YouTube Video

User: Carol Ann L. 10 years ago
I am trying to embed a YouTube video into a website. I dragged the widget into the site and then entered the embedding code:

I clicked "Apply" and the framework appeared; however the video never appeared.

I clicked on "Preview" thinking it might be there but all I got was an error message.

Can you help me?

Your source code is missing "http:". Add that, like this, and see what happens:

That didn't work Christopher. I copied and pasted originally from YouTube and then I copied and pasted the line you gave me. The first time It showed the arrow and the line showing the progress of the video. With your line that did not appear.

Aha! I've never actually done this so tried adding the YouTube widget to my page. It asks for the URL, not the embed code which you are trying to input there. After a little googling, I tried the following and it worked:

www.youtu.be/RDpWkBi-cr4

That must be what YouTube gives you when you click Share. See if it works for you. Looks like you might encounter another problem though when you try to play the video.

EverWeb fills in the - http://www.youtube.com/embed/ - part for you. All you need to paste in is this...

You did impress me!

I never use YouTube so I hadn't looked at the widget except for a disapproving glare.

I cheated by opening up the widget to see what it inserted in that box. It creates all the URL apart from the ID code.

If you insert a URL like this...

http://www.youtube.com/embed/RDpWkBi-cr4?rel=0

The widget inserts this...

http://www.youtube.com/embed/http://www.youtube.com/embed/RDpWkBi-cr4?rel=0

Since I am into creating widgets just now, I made one with a few more features. I'm not a YT fan so I usually use Vimeo and put it in a frame. To show that I am not biased totally against YouTube, I made it dual purpose and named it VeeTube.

This screenshot shows an example in EverWeb with the widget in the sidebar along with some other new ones...

This shows the controls in the Widgets inspector...
