To get further updates the cost is $49.95. You never lose access to your purchased version though.

I’m considering the purchase of the standalone version of EverWeb, as I am currently contracted with another hosting company. Before I buy, I need to completely understand the company’s intent on the upgrade fee. According to your FAQ page: “The EverWeb standalone version costs $79.95 USD which gets you one year of free updates and support. You never need to upgrade and you will never lose access to your current version of EverWeb. To renew your EverWeb license the cost is $49.95 USD.” Is the renewal just to extend personalized customer support? That would be completely acceptable, especially if it’s optional. But what about the software? As I understand it, an update is a patch to correct problems and bugs, and an upgrade is an improved version of an app that features significant new features. Is it the company’s intention to release a new upgrade every year and then no longer provide updates to older versions? Or, will updates will continue at no charge but simply without customer support? If the plan is to release new version upgrades every year, will there be enough significant new features in an upgrade to warrant an almost $50 per year charge? The app seems fairly complete as it is. |

Or, will updates will continue at no charge but simply without customer support? In EverWeb's case updates/upgrades should be used interchangeably. We plan on updating EverWeb constantly with no set dates. We already have an update in beta testing now. If you want the new features and customer support after 1 year you can pay the $50 to get them, otherwise you can stick with your current version forever. The app seems fairly complete as it is. You will get many free updates throughout the year. There isn't going to be only 1 major update. This lets us give you features faster. Instead of having to put a significant amount of features into one single version to justify an update price, all features are released when ready. If you don't want the new features after a year, you don't need to pay. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |
