They are working on a new and better image gallery widget.. things take time.. What i miss in the gallery is the option to give the photo's some kind of title and the option to remove the twitter facebook button..
The gallery works ok for me, to begin with.. I am sure they are working on something great :)

Okay I've had a day to cool down and figure out Shadowbox which is working just fine. I regret the tone of this thread. I shouldn't have just ranted. I'm sure for many people, the image gallery widget will suffice. If you don't care about your photos being over compressed, and just want something quick and easy, it is stylish and beautiful and easy to implement. And in due time, it will get better and better! Carry on...

if you wonna arange or remove some of the photo's you need to double click the widget and then you can arange the photos, there is a little blue line so you can see where it goes.. can't remember if you just double click and delete to remove a picture or you just drag it outside the box..
The gallery is not working that good.. the arrange method is not good as you will notice when you try it out..

would like to hear a answer to this as well
is there any way to prevent the photos from being resized or alter the styles :)

You can re-arrange or delete photos by double clicking the widget and you'll see a blue outline over the selected image. Press your delete key to delete it drag to re-arrange.

The image is is displayed to fit within the web browser so its resized to the web browser's size when you click it. The max size of the image is 600 pixels. How big do you want the image to be?

What styles are changing for you? I don't understand what you mean here.

The image gallery will always make retina thumbnails for you so you don't need your retina image in there. If your images are greater than 1200px than you don't need retina images for the file size either because images are resized.

Good to know. But I wouldn't have known if I hadn't asked. A little write up in the Widget panel would certainly help.

I would love for there to be an option of Actual size (maybe like the options offered in Mail when sending a photo). The current gallery I'm working on has photos that are 720 x 540. But for my next gallery, I'll be using images of 960 x 540. For people like me and Darian who size their images before importing, it's an unwelcome surprise to then have the photos resized and re-compressed.

What fighter and I would both like is the ability to customize the style of the gallery. Adding a title or caption to each photo is pretty standard in most galleries and would be awesome if included in EW. Maybe a colour option for the white border, or ability to remove it. I've heard others request the option of removing the social network buttons.

So if we want our images to be retina in the gallery as it is now, they have to at least be double 600 wide? Does it matter if they're named @2x or not?

Yesterday when I tried out the gallery, my thumbnails had the same white polaroid border as the images themselves. It looked horrible. Today, I gave it another go and my thumbnails do not have this style added. I'm mystified as to why, but hugely relieved. For me, my biggest preference would be the ability to use actual size (or if you have to give a maximum, at least bigger than 600). If I knew this was coming, or could be done somehow with injecting code, I'd stick with this widget. Can you respond to this.

And sorry about raining on the parade yesterday. <!-- s:| --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_neutral.gif" alt=":|" title="Neutral" /><!-- s:| -->
