Viewing Templates aren't as user-friendly

Templates aren't as user-friendly

User: Guest 12 years ago
Hi, I just installed the latest EasyWeb Beta. I am rebuilding a website that I designed using iWeb. First thing I noticed that the templates don't support easy drag and drop for the prebuilt pictures. For Example I drag a picture on a prebuilt one and it just appears on top of it. It should replace it in my option. However then I see that you can select any picture on the page shape tab. So i try replacing the template picture with one of mine, which works, but it zooms in really far, probably because the resolution of the pictures aren't same. Of course you can do a work around, but I assume you would like easy web to be as simple and intuitive as iWeb,so I would suggest you fix this behavior

And how would you want it fixed?

Dragging an image from the assets list doesn't replace the image you are dragging it onto. Why should it? Using the shapes tab to change the picture in a preset shape works just fine. Make sure that you select the appropriate setting for your picture from the drop down menu:

EasyWeb isn't iWeb. It's very similar, powerful and flexible. But it's not a 100% iWeb clone. If you want that, stay with iWeb ;) Some things work very similar to iWeb, others don't. Get used to it. It might take a while, but it's totally worth it.

I think it's very user friendly if you can just drag and drop a picture onto a template picture, it saves time. Otherwise, why are there templates to begin with?

Here is an example:
This is how iWeb does it:

And if you drop the same in easy web this happens:

Instead of replacing the first picture in the template and taking the same style, shape and effects, it just puts it on top.
Then you have to go to click on the template you wanted replaced, hit the inspector, select shape, select the image you just dropped in, and hit scale to size. then delete the dropped picture. So yes it works, but not as easy as it can be. I'm not trying to dumb down the program or say it's bad. It's just something I noticed that makes the workflow more efficient.
I believe that's the point of this beta testing, it's to find bugs and give advice how things could be better.

But during this test, I noticed another thing. I can't seem to find a way to mask or crop a picture. Is there a way? Or do you need to do it before you insert the picture? Because that would be very inconvenient.

It would make your workflow more efficient ;) Doesn't mean it's useful for all others, but that's nothing I have to (or can) decide.

I don't think it's a bug though. But maybe the devs can answer your call better.

Set the image fill to "Stretch" and then use the Format Menu to mask it.

Thanks for the tip with the stretching, that works.

You can do this by selecting the image, and then selecting Format > Mask

You drag in your photo and it replaces the one on the template and takes on its characters (size, shadow, etc.).

In this case simply select your image in the template and go to Inspector->Shape Options and under fill change the image. It will do what you want for the time being.
