Well here is my finish site: Check it out here I had to upload it with Filezilla...I hate the fact that EverWeb FTP did not do the job! I feel I am not getting my monies worth that I paid for this app! I want to use the EW FTP as I will make changes often to the site - just simply publishing the changes within the app just like iWeb did is a huge time saver! Now I must sit and wait for the site to publish to a folder, (one hour) then upload it to Filezilla (another hour) and wait for it to do it's thing all while making sure I don't drag the wrong folder to the wrong place in Filezilla. Sometimes when I used iWeb, I see just a small text that needs correcting or something tiny like that - fix it, just click publish, and there ya go - all done. Not with Everweb! And iWeb was free...C'mon - Must Fix! Maybe you guys that built this app were not expecting such large sites to be built? I hope you will answer this post because I feel it is being ignored, all the trouble I have with the publishing. The building of the site is fine and the app does well at that. What ever you build in the site, it will publish it just like that - that is a plus. I am so angry about the publishing, I can't stand it. The Everweb publishing must be addressed!! I am so disappointed in the publishing - I feel I should have built my site with Volusion or something like that, but I like desktop web builders to my peril it seems. Hope to hear from you guys at Rage about this - still a fan of this app but a bit pissed off because launch day was a frigin nightmare!!!! Alan |

Well I found another publishing problem. Maybe I should put this in bug reports. Anyway, I make small changes to 2 pages on site. I published just "site changes" to local folder. I went to load just these changed files to server with Filezilla. They were Image files. Checked site after uploading, It did not fix the problem! I went to look at the files in my local folder. Instead of overwriting the files it just added more of the same. So instead of having one copy of each picture for the Image Gallery, there were as many pictures as many times I had re-published it. So, of course, the bad or corrupted pictures are still in the folder and still get uploaded to HostGator - resulting in the bad image. (no image actually). How to get around this? Well published the entire site again...NO WAY! Takes over an hour or more for a full over write. This needs to be FIXED! Damn, now I can't even do a quick adjustment on my site without spending hours on it! WTF!!!!!! Now EverWeb FTP does not work, and also publishing to folder with "just site changes" does not work! It just adds more stuff to the current folder... Hello, is anyone looking into this! |

I'm not surprised your site is taking so long to upload - and to download in the browser. The pages I looked at each have around 70 shape images. For every shape image you use, EverWeb creates a @2x retina version as well. Do the math: 140 shape images x the number of pages probably adds up to several thousand images and that's before you start counting the photos! ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Thanks for responding Roddy. Yea; I don't what else to do really. Maybe I should have pick another web builder for an e-commerce site. But I used to love iWeb and thought I'd try it with EverWeb. Mayeb I bit off too much...It does load a bit slow. Do you think that's why EverWeb kinda gives up on uploading to a server via the app? It just plain ole' stops...like it has had enough. Mayeb I'll do another full rebuild with Volusion or other...sure do like EverWeb though. Hope maybe it is a bug that they can fix to be able to upload a site with massive stuff. I still want to be able to upload my files via the FTP to server in the app, instead of going to FileZilla. I think it still needs work. Last edit 11 years ago |

Take a look at the size of the EverWeb WIdgetbox website. Via the navigation, you will see how many pages there are. Shapes are created with widgets using CSS rather than images so these have zero file size. The whole website takes less than 15 minutes to upload. Images are inserted using a widget so that the files are in the External Files folder - rather than the images folder. This prevents EverWeb from creating duplicate copies of them. EverWeb is an excellent app and will create a far superior website than iWeb ever could. It's just a question of learning to use it effectively. Using shape images is probably OK for a small personal site but have no place in a larger commercial one which needs to load in 3 seconds or less. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Thanks Roddy, I have been looking over your widget site for awhile now trying to figure out which ones I might need. Maybe it is the Image widget. I guess I would have to rebuild the site again? Do you think that Everweb would upload it without freezeing up if I did the Image CSS? I'm afraid to make any changes now because uploading to the server even with Filezilla takes a long time. EW FTP to server is out of the question, it will not do it. If I get some widgets, will it automatically do the image CSS, or do I have to start over with each image or rebuild every page? Need a few details to see if it is worth it. Yes; I know EW is a lot better than iWeb, I just did not have publishing problems with iWeb as I do with EW using built in FTP. How did you upload your site? EW FTP or FTP App? Edit: Which widgets will do the CSS Image? Saw many image widgets but not sure which one will do th trick. A bit of widget overload over there, Lol. Thanks... Last edit 11 years ago |

I was actually referring to replacing all those shape images with ones using HTML & CSS which have zero file size. These widgets will create shapes and lines and the easy column widget creates placeholders quickly and easily… http://everwebcodebox.com/widgetbox/layout/layout-widgets.html Insert your images using the widgets shown on this page so that you can add alt text for SEO and a hyperlink if required… http://everwebcodebox.com/widgetbox/image/image-insert.html Doing this will improve your site performance a lot and make uploading to the server go a lot faster. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Quote: I gave up again on EW FTP - Trying Filezilla again. My site is starting to show up in pieces. Doing a few 301 redirects because EverWeb uses the /index.html at the end of their URL's. Did not know that either... Every web page uses index.html at the end. You just don't have to include the index.html and the browser will go to the correct place. Quote: Please work on EW FTP Publishing you guys. I wonder, after all the site is published with FZ and I adjust a little of it, will EW notice this and can publish via EW instead of FZ every time? EverWeb notices existing files on the sever already during publishing (before freezing up). Many users are using Hostgator without issues. It could be a number of problems but please check with Hostgator about the issues I descried earlier. For the console, I need all the messages from EverWeb. You can copy and paste them into an email to customer support and reference this forum post. Lastly your forum posts are being duplicated because you are reloading the forum page after you have replied to the forum post. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

Thanks Paul and Roddy for the responses. I have calmed down a bit now since my new EW site is live now. I was so excited about launch day that when it went bad I was so pissed off. I'll see what I can do about the support stuff Paul. Roddy, I will definately check on the widgets. Your site feels light and is fast and it appears might be larger than my site. I just dread re-building it again with the new widgets after all the work I did to it already... just for clarification, I do have to basically re-do everything with the new widgets right Roddy? What ever I need to do to be able to publish with EW FTP to server I'll do, as it will be so easy to update the site on a regular basis. Yes; Paul I realized the refresh was doing to duplicate post after 3 or so times... "Every web page uses index.html at the end. You don't have to redo all your pages at once - one page at a time over time will do. The most important page of a website is the Home page. This must download fast in the browser and grab your visitors attention. Start with it. Your website has a lot of product images which are of prime importance. This is why it would be a good idea to cut out all the shape images which are not. Using an image insert widget will allow your images to be indexed by the search engines. Give each image file a descriptive file name before you import it into EverWeb. Then add more key words in the Alt Text field in the widget settings. The brand image links are important to let both the humans and the search engine spiders know what ones you stock. At the moment, these are invisible to the SE spiders. Use the image link widget to add descriptive alt text and use the title field to enter the manufacturer's name. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Thanks Roddy... By the way, do you publish your site with the built in EW FTP or do a FilaZilla type thing? Thanks... Last edit 11 years ago |

I publish the site to a local folder so that I can run the files through an optimizer for faster download. I either use the optimizer or Yummy FTP to upload files. I mainly use the FTP app for uploading single files quickly, to organize files on the server and delete redundant ones. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb!
