Viewing Publish to both EasyWeb and Folder
Publish to both EasyWeb and Folder

If I alternate between publishing to EasyWeb and to a folder on my local drive, EasyWeb updates the entire site each time and not just the incremental changes. Could EasyWeb track these two publication streams separately and only publish the changed files for either? I ask because when a site has hundreds or thousands of pages publishing to both will become quite time consuming. (I keep a local copy because a previous hosting company lost my entire Joomla site and had no backup so I now keep a copy of my site backed up locally and rigourously.)

One of the many reasons that I didn't use MobileMe, and why I would not be inclined to use the EasyWeb server, is that I never publish a site (or changes) to the server without testing them locally. Publishing directly to the server may be OK for personal websites but can be embarrassing or disastrous for a business site. Keeping a local copy of the files has saved my ass on a few occasions and is good practice. In your case I would seriously consider publishing to a local folder and uploading to another server using an FTP app until such time as the EasyWeb server allows this. Most people who use EasyWeb to create sites and need everything made quick and simple will be happy to use one click publishing. Those who care about their reputation and whose web designs are their livelihood will test first! ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Quote: Could EasyWeb track these two publication streams separately and only publish the changed files for either? We could probably add something like this in a future version. Note that you really only need to backup your EasyWeb project file and not the published site. Backing up your project file means you can always publish again with EasyWeb in the future. Since you cannot import HTML files into EasyWeb, your project file is much more important than your exported HTML files. You always have the option of entering a site name and publishing to a test folder. What we need to add is a quick preview within EasyWeb. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

All this being said it would maker me feel better if I could maintain a copy of my site on my computer for the following reasons: 1. If I do want to modify the code itself I can open the local folder in WebDesign and publish the altered file from there. (I have tested this and it works just fine.) 2. Having been badly burned in the past (by a different, not to be named company) it would provide me with my own copy of the html and graphic files which would survive the (not to be though of) disappearance of EasyWeb or Rage web hosting. Those files could be uploaded directly to a different web hosting company, a site map could be generated and I would be back in business since the majority of the pages on my site are essentially archived and unchanging. ------------------------------- Chris H stage-door.com |

You could try this... Publish your site changes to the EasyWeb server Go to Home Folder/Application Support/EasyWeb and duplicate the project file Double click this duplicate to launch it in EasyWeb and then publish to a local folder. Now delete the duplicate. It's a lot quicker than changing publishing destinations in EasyWeb. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Thank you. That's a great workaround which works fine but it would still be nice to be able to do this easily from within EasyWeb.

As Paul has pointed out, if you need a backup in case the server flakes out on you, it's just a question of having a backup of the project file which Time Machine will do automatically for you.
