Viewing Large Image gallery

Large Image gallery

Hello - I'm wondering if Easy Web is ideal for our business. We own a dress shop and need a great way for dresses to be clicked through online - this involves thousands of large images. With Iweb I was able to do this with the pre-formated photo pages (but was dismayed that the max per album is 500, forcing me to break each 'over 500 images' catalog into parts).

So far with Easy Web, I haven't found the best way to do this. In fact, as I'm trying to find out, the app keeps crashing when I add lots of pics at once (iweb was able to handle the 500 max per album without crashes). Looking around, I see others mentioning external plug ins (if that's the correct term, I'm a newbie) - can anyone recommend a solution for my needs? Is there something I'm missing in Easy Web or should I use an external service like light box or Galleria for so many images? I saw on another post someone mentioning that tons of pics will slow down the site but it seemed ok on my iweb site somehow (I mean it's ok on the net on my browser, it was a pain actually working within Iweb with so many pics).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. FYi I'm on Snow Leopard in case that's important. Thanks in advance.

From what it sounds like I think you need to consider usability of your website. Do you really think one page showing 500 images is user friendly to your visitors?

I think it would be better to separate your dresses into separate categories and link to galleries with fewer pages. One page with over 500 images is going to be very slow and not very user friendly. It will be difficult for visitors to find what they are looking for.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it. I'm not a web designer and do my best to figure this all out as I move along.

I wasn't clear, sorry. Not 500 pics on one page. 500 pics in one album (I think that's what they're called, I don't know), which iweb would auto-separate into several sub-pages at a max of 100 per page (or less if I set it that way). If you have the time, pls visit my current site (http://glitzformals.com) to see what I mean (btw I'm anxious to use something other than Iweb's 'lightroom' theme). Notice how if a vendor had more than 500 pics, I'd have to give that vendor multiple pages at less than 500 each (LaFemme 1, 2, etc). Also, pls notice if you click on a dress, it shows up larger on a separate page with thumbnails to 'flip' through - I'd really like to keep this or a similar method using Easy Web.

Btw, at first I had these image pages as "albums' on an 'album' page but it was terribly slow so I eventually removed that page and just added the image links to Iweb's nav bar - making it huge but seems to work much better and faster than before.

If you (or anyone reading) were building my site, how would you add the pics to Easy Web so it's easy for customers to flip through the dresses like it is with iweb?

Thanks again!
