Bullet List

I need to add a bullet list to my page. The only way I can find to do this is by using either a FlexBox or Text Section widget. However, neither of these offer much flexibility in the list appearance: • I need to have the bullet points the same colour as the text • I need to be able to inset the text, to create a sub-list • I don’t want the large gap above the heading which the Text Section Widget produces Attached are a couple of images that show what is available in Everweb and the desired result, created in Pages. Any suggestions…? |

Hi Brian, Thank you for reaching out. You can create a bullet list using the TextBox widget, which gives you more flexibility over the list appearance. To add bullet points: - Press Option (⌥) + 8 on your keyboard to insert a bullet. - Press Space after the bullet to format it properly. - To create a sub-list, press Tab after starting a new line. With the TextBox widget, you can also control spacing by adjusting the Line Height and Paragraph settings in the Text Inspector. Cheers, that works great - it's easy when you know how! 👍 And I've got the Keyboard Viewer up in the toolbar but never thought to use it. |

Well that was short lived! While the Alt + 8 key combination does indeed produce a bullet point, this, on its own, does not create a list. If there is more than one line of text in the list, then lines 2, 3, 4 etc don't align under the start of line one, as a list should, but start at the left edge of the text box. Example images attached. My original images of the lists created by both the Flex Box Widget and the Text Section Widget show that they can indeed produce a list correctly, but they're very inflexible in its output, which was the reason for my original query. Any further suggestions? |

Whoops - they're both the same image. This is how Alt + 8 produces a list in Everweb. |

Hi Brain, Did you get your list done? I tried to use the Flex Box and the Text Section widgets (which would be good enough for me) , but I can't get the same result as shown in your pictures..... Long text doesn't align neatly under the first line. (sound familiar?) Could you please share how you got it done? Thanks, Jay |

Hi Jay, I did get my bullet list completed and formatted correctly, but it wasn't through using Everweb. I've got so frustrated with the software limitations - lack of formatting for bullet lists being just one example - that I've taken to using other software which does produce beautiful, correctly formatted bullet lists, directly via the text editor, without using any widgets. The closest I could get was using a Flexbox, but I couldn't alter the bullet shape, style or colour, the bullet indent to produce a sub-list, the spacing between bullet and text or the line spacing to match the other text on the page, despite using the same Text Style in the Flexbox widget. You could produce your bullet list in Pages for example, and insert it as an image. But then you'd run into other problems such as text and line scaling in other breakpoints or page resizing if it's a responsive site. It depends what you need, but the Flexbox widget is probably as good as it gets. |

Hi Jay, Thank you for your reply. EverWeb 4.4.1, which was just released, improves how bullet points work when using Option (⌥) + 8 inside a regular TextBox. This gives you more flexibility, but the alignment is still manual. Wrapped lines do not indent automatically like in word processors. As an alternative, if your TextBoxes are not inside Responsive Rows or similar containers, you can simply add separate TextBoxes for different levels of indentation and drag them into position. If they are inside Responsive Rows, alignment will be limited by the responsive layout. You may also want to check out the List Advanced widget from EverWebGarden for more control over list appearance: https://www.everwebgarden.com/widgets/list-advanced If you need any further assistance, please let us know. Thanks you both for your quick response! I tried the flex box and the text section widgets but I couldn't get what I was looking for (which is similar to Brain's request, but with numbers AND indented bullets) I also have the Everweb garden widgets, but.... same results... I worked my way around it by using "stacked" text boxes with different dimensions and it kind of does the job, although it's not what I was looking for... I do hope that Everweb will do some upgrade on the bullet lists (at least a handy spacing option between bullet points), because the whole purpose of a bullet list is to make things easier to see for potential customers and it is really missing the point there.... pun intended But still, thank you both for taking the time! Appreciated, Jay |
