Strange characters in forum messages

I have always seen what looks like wrong encoding in forum replies such as the following line "yes it's strange that the settings 'snap back'..." I tried changing the encoding in Safari preferences but no joy. Where does the ' come from? MacOS 11.6.2 and Safari 14.1.2 encoding Unicode UTF-8 Thanks |

| The character is an apostrophe. I use Western (ISO Latin 1) as default encoding in the Safari-> Preferences (which it defaulted to when installed) and it seems to work fine for me. Check also in case you have any third party plug ins or extensions that may cause this to appear. Alternatively, try a different browser to see if it also happens there, or try uninstalling and reinstalling Safari. | |
