Viewing Scale To Fill / Fit

Scale To Fill / Fit

User: DarrinW 12 years ago
I'm not seeing a difference in Scale To Fill and Scale To Fit. They both seem to fit my image to the shape. I can't fill the whole shape with the image.

I'm having the same trouble. I've set up a shape and have tried to 'image fill' it with a photo only to find it doesn't and wont fill the shape. Also I cant seem to be able to drag and drop a photo into a shape to fill it, is that a feature that will be brought in with a later release?

Drag and drop a shape anywhere in EasyWeb and a new shape will be created with the image.

Or you can go to the Inspector and select 'Image fill' for the selected shape.

I am a new user of EverWeb and am having the same problem using the latest 1.7.x and the 1.8 beta. I would like to be able to crop images within EverWeb - if the "scale to fill" choice doesn't fill a custom-proportioned rectangle or shape, is there another way to do this? Thank you.

Added explanation:
If an imported image is stretched out of proportion from the original image, you will see white space on the sides or above and below. If you select "stretch" in the inspector, the image will fill that deformed rectangle. Selecting "scale to fill" should also have the image fill the deformed rectangle except that a portion at the sides or top and bottom of the image would be cropped. Instead, it behaves the same as "scale to fit".

I don't consider this a good long-term solution, but my short-term fix is to use the "Image Slider" widget for those still images that I require to be a proportion that doesn't match the original image proportion. The scale to fill options seem to work properly with this widget.

If you want an image to fit into a predetermined shape, you need to at least crop it to the same aspect ratio as the shape before importing into EverWeb. Even better - from the point of view of download efficiency - the image should be cropped to the correct size.

If you don't have a dedicated app for cropping/resizing Preview.app will do the job easily enough.

Thank you for the response. I am looking for efficiency so that I don't have multiple versions of the same graphics to maintain and update. If the scale to fill feature were working properly, wouldn't EverWeb upload the formatted version (proportion and resolution as it appears in the EverWeb layout window) either way? We're on a bug-report topic began one year ago and the remaining answer is to work around the bug. Has anyone considered fixing the bug?

Looking at a published test site, I see that the original image size is uploaded - which means it must be downloaded and then formatted by the browser. In recent years, I have been using iWeb which treats this situation differently. Given that, I can see the value in custom formatting images before importing into EverWeb.

No it doesn't. Can you show me an example of where you are seeing this?

Are you disputing that iWeb works different than EverWeb in this area or that EverWeb uploads the originally imported image size?

Hi,

Scale to Fill does not work as I would expect either. I drag an image onto a rounded rectangle shape and I expect it to zoom into the image until the entire shape is filled with the image, keeping to the image proportion. Its ok of parts of the image are cropped so long as the proportion is maintained and the shape is completely filled with the image. At the moment (v1.8.2) Scale to Fill is performing the same operation as Scale to Fit operation. Why do I want this to work? I don't want to have to manually adjust every image before I drag it onto a shape in EverWeb. That is what I bought EverWeb for, to do magical things like this to avoid manual steps.

Is this a known bug? is it even considered a bug?
