RAGE vs other host

User: gkasy 12 years ago
How many people here are using RAGE as a host? and how many use other hosts? What are your thoughts and opinions on Rage , as well as other hosts
User: Roddy 12 years ago
At the moment I am using both since I am testing out quite a few more advanced projects.

Once EasyWeb comes out of Beta there will be no point in publishing to another server unless you are really experienced or want to give yourself a hard time.

I know there was quite a bit of adverse comment about EasyWeb due to the hosting but this was from those who hadn't even tried the software or considered the advantages. As far as I can see there are no advantages to hosting elsewhere - for the average user anyway.

What are the advantages of alternative hosting - if any?

with the package made by easyweb you only get the software and hosting including 2 gb of storage.. then i can upgrade to 10gb but now it's getting expensive.. so for my case i will stick with my current host that gives me unlimmeted space.. (i use alot of photos on my page)

It is "expensive" if you just compare the web hosting. But the software isn't free, neither is support, so you have to buy the software plus pay for your third party web hosting.

Your third party web host won't be able to trouble shoot EasyWeb issues.

I really don't think that $2 per week is expensive for web design software inclusive of updates, hosting and tech support.

i do have to ay that one of the minuses is that Rage doesnt' have phone supper.
I do have to admit that so far e-mail support has been great. But email is somewhat time consuming and you may not get answers right away or you may leave your computer at some point

What do you need phone support for - hosting or web design or both?

Phone support is very expensive to provide, especially for niche products because hiring people with the technical knowledge needed is expensive.

When you call phone support for many web hosting companies they are providing textbook responses to common problems. When you have issues that require more technical knowledge, you won't get that same type of support over the phone.

We have a ton of walk through video tutorials where someone actually shows you how to do something rather than telling you how over the phone which is not as easy to follow. Most hosting companies don't offer that.

The issues people have with hosting is publishing their website and setting up email. Two things that EasyWeb takes care of for you. There is no FTP details to enter and EasyWeb will auto-configure your email for you in Apple Mail. Very rarely do we get other questions.

For complex issues we do screen sharing when required.

If you did go with a third party web host they won't be able to offer support for EasyWeb. EasyWeb is a niche product that especially at first, most hosting companies won't know about. We can help much quicker than other hosting company can, even those that provide phone support.

At $99/year we won't be able to provide phone support for actually designing your website anyways. We had phone support at one time and people just tended to want to stay on the phone for hours and they would forget what we talked about and have the same questions. That is why we made the written videos instead. Any question is almost always already covered in our knowledge base or forums.

And Lastly as the EasyWeb community grows, other People can help on the forums. Users like Roddy (as well as RAGE employees) respond very quickly to questions here.

I am not saying i wont sign up, i am not sure yet..
but so far i think i will stay where i am, paying for the software once and then staying with my host where i pay under 50 a year and i have unlimmeted space..
If i sign up to rage host i will need to pay 150 for host and software every year.. That's not alot if if you alot of sites, but i only got 1 webpage and that's all i will ever have..

I've been here less than 24 hours, so my first impression of joy may change. I am on Pair and A2 right now, and I'm building an array of sites, from an active magazine to a weekly podcast to a personal journal from way back before Blogger that I want to revive.

It would be nice to not have to worry about sys admin stuff so much and concentrate on the design and content. Claris HomePage was my second-favorite program, behind HyperCard. But now -- do you go with Muse and their whole CCloud, or Sandvox, which already has a blog but which has crashed so badly that I'm miserable working in it. And then there's Hype, and WebDesign, which looks daunting.

So if the Rage platform will do the heavy lifting in a way an English major can understand, it could be a pleasure.

A question: if you sign up with Rage, can the beta site go live right away? Or when the beta is over?

Happy to be here.

The site you build with the beta version of EasyWeb can go live whenever you want. You will just need to publish it to a local folder and then use an FTP client to publish the site to your server.

If you have a RAGE Web Hosting, or EasyWeb Hosting account, you will be able to publish your site right from within EasyWeb at the click of a button.

Would like to add how impressed I am with the support. I lost my site from my computer first and thought i'd have to start all over. However, everything got resolved very quickly! Can't thank enough for the wonderful support.

PS. I'm a newbie with MAC and web design

I'm okay with everything but the 2 gb of storage. Should be at least 5g. However, I would like to see 20gb like Mobile Me had for $99. If you have more than a couple sites with images 2gb is not going to cut it.

Where do you find the price structure for using Rage software for website building. I had the understanding a person could buy the software, build their website and upload it to the hosting company they already have an account with and go from their. Before I get involved in learning this, I want to make sure it is useable for my needs going forward.
