my Vimeo video is misaligned - strange!

User: Christopher 7 years ago
Hi. It's been a while since I've been on this forum. Is Roddy still king around here?? :)

I've embedded a Vimeo video onto my website and it's always worked fine but now it plays slightly misaligned such that you can see the bottom and the right of the poster frame underneath. Huh? I didn't change anything other than the video. I've written Vimeo support but the video plays fine on their website, as do all my others, and that's probably what they're going to tell me. I tried embedding a different video on the same page and it too plays misaligned over the previous videos' poster frame. Is that a clue?

I've emptied the cache, refreshed the browser, tried in both Safari and Firefox... Anyone have any ideas? Here's the link. It's the first video at the top.

HI Christopher,

Sorry for the problems you are experiencing.

Are you using the widget to embed this video or the HTML Snippet?

Does it happen in other projects as well, or other pages?

Hi Paul. I’m using an HTMl snippet and just pasting in the Vimeo embed code. I’ve never encountered this problem and my other pages are all fine.

Hi Christopher,

Can you try the Vimeo Widget?

If you still have issues I think it may be a conflict with another add-on or other code inserted into your website.

If you continue to have issues, we will need to test your project file here.

Or you can also try removing third party widgets from that page one by one and removing any code you have put in the Page Header field for that page. If you have other HTML Snippets on that page they could be inserted with incorrect html code which could also cause this issue

The iframe width and height are set to 960px and 540px respectively.

The containing div is set to 960px by 544px.

I deleted the html snippet that had my embed code, then republished entire site, and uploaded to my ftp. I was hoping to wipe the slate clean and then add the html snippet back. But to my amazement, the video is still there and plays fine, as if the problem was a second html snippet overlapping the first. And like Roddy pointed out, with metrics off by 4 pixels.

I'm attaching a screenshot from my Everweb project with layouts showing. You can see, there's no snippet where the video should be. So why is the video still there on web browsers? I've emptied the cache several times and it's still there. I'm sending this out to people today so I'm trusting that the published site is fine..?

No html snippet but the video plays!

The video looks fine now on the published site.

The enclosing div is still ther but has a height of 3px. That's why you see it on the design canvas.

The iframe containing the Vimeo video overflows the enclosing div because it has a fixed value for height of 540px.

It's a lot simpler using a widget. All you need to do is enter the Vimeo ID number. You can also insert several on a page and one will pause when another is selected to play.

These widgets allow you to insert the video title and description in the same HTML5 container as the video file. If you insert a video on its own, there's no text for the search engines to index and we all know that the search engine spiders can't actually watch the video or listen to the soundtrack.

Okay thanks Roddy. So you mean because the div is 3px high, that’s why I can’t see it? How am I going to delete it if I can’t find it to replace with the widget?

I’m away from my laptop right now but will try again when I’m back.

Okay I found the enclosing div. I didn't create that, not at 3px. I then found another one like it on another page. I'm on 2.7.0 but this must've been a bug or something? My metrics had changed throughout. Even now, I changed it back to 960 x 540, matching the embed code parameters, published, and it's reverted to 960 x 544. Furthermore, my Y position keeps changing from 150 to 146. I had change it again, republish, and this time it appears to have worked.

Regardless, thanks for trouble-shooting me through this. All good now :)
