Viewing EasyWeb SEO

EasyWeb SEO

User: Guest 12 years ago
Hello Kids!
(I read some of this a while ago but can't find it now).
Okay, I have used Google Analytics in my Header Code and Stat Counter in my Footer Code, as with 'iWeb SEO Tool'. Will there in future be provision for <h1> codes, Meta Tags, Description etc... along with a Webcrusher and Sitemap Automator provision or as a separate item as per the iWeb tools?
Also on each page I have, there is a separate Header, Footer. Should I copy/paste the analytics into each page or leave blank for now? Thanks.

Having both GA and Statcounter is kind of overkill!

I stated my case for putting those in the footer code box in this topic...

http://ragesw.net/easyweb-beta/viewtopic.php?f=5...t=216...p=862...hilit=analytics+footer#p862

You only need to do it once in the site wide box in the Site Publishing Settings page.

There is a spot for the description - along with title - in the page inspector.

Google doesn't take much notice of meta tags anymore due to overuse and abuse but you can add them in the page header code if you wish...

<meta name="keywords" content="keywords, separated, by, comma, go, here">

See this page for info about adding HTML headings...

In earlier versions of EasyWeb there was a widget for adding headings but they took it away from us and won't give it back unless we are very nice to them!

Roddy, how do you know all things www?

So:- Google Analytics from Header to Footer. (Bing Analytics code in footer too?)
and...
<h1> tags in HTML Widget (?) which means we do not need to put anything in the header/footer on each page, if I understand correctly...

I don't know much but what I do know is from bitter experience?

I'm still wondering why you need so much in the way of analytics? Any code that goes on every page of the site only needs to be entered once in either of the site-wide code boxes on the Site Publishing Settings page.

There's a whole bunch of mumbo jumbo written about SEO and all these voodoo experts who claim they will place you on the pinnacle of success. Better to follow your own path and leave them to feast on those who have money to burn!

Think about your web page content and what keywords are relevant to it. Place these, in order of importance, in the page name (and file name if different), page title, h1, h2, h3, h4 and repeat them in the content so that they are interesting to us humans.

Add descriptive captions to your images and other media such as movies. Add alt tags to images. How many times do you see slideshows and movies on websites and not a word of description? Don't these "webmasters" know that the spiders can't watch their movie or click through their slideshow?

Maybe a little paranoid about Google's spiders, but as a Driving School, we are in a very competitive market and "Must" be in Googles top 5 results. Our old page http://www.catz-eye.com does well with SEO Tool, webcrusher ... sitemap automator. Just keen to ensure http://www.catz-i.com does just as well with keywords etc

Roddy, how do we add alt tags to images in EW? I'm sure the answer is right in front of me but I can't see it.

You cannot add image alt tags yet but we are working on getting that implemented.

Just the same as for headings (h1, h2, h3, h4), it's worth using HTML to insert key images - especially if you have just one or two per page which reflect the content of the page. This will allow you to not only insert alt text but also to use the "title" attribute to insert tooltip text which appears when the visitor hovers the cursor over the image.

The HTML goes like this...

<img src="[color=#FF0000:ikgso168]{!-ASSETSPATH-!}External%20Files/image-file-name.jpg[/color:ikgso168]" alt="alt text goes here" title="tooltip text goes here" style="width: 640px; height: 480px; border: none" />

Drag an image into the Assets column, control click it and select "Copy Relative File Path". Paste this into the above code - marked in red.

Enter the appropriate text for the alt and title attributes along with the image width and height. Drag an HTML Snippet onto the page, paste the code in and then click the Apply button. Adjust the Snippet size to that of the image using the Metrics inspector.

If you have a number of images that appear roughly the same on your site you can set up a class for them in the site wide head code and embellish them with border, box shadow - even captions if you want - without adding all these speed sucking PNGs.

Adding headings and images this way is a fairly painless introduction to basic HTML and CSS and will also make your site a lot more search engine friendly.

If you want your photos to be famous you need to put in a little extra effort which will pay off big in the long run. EasyWeb gives us the tools to do stuff like this and it's up to us to use them to make our sites perform better than those created with similar software.

@ Davidson2

Try to get "cats-i.com in text somewhere on every page. Also you need some text for images like the one with "Theory Test Pro - click here to take a free test". Look at every image on your site and describe it as though the visitor is blind.

Your "qualifications" page, for example, has virtually no text.

"Reviews" page - "A Picture speaks a Thousand Words". This is true for humans but the spiders are blind.

You have to try to imagine your website with no photos, slideshows or movies. Would a visitor get the message from the text alone? If they can then so will the SEO spiders.

After 18 years in California the Scottish folks aren't taking kindly to my LA style driving tactics. Perhaps I need some lessons?

Some people do search using post (zip) code so it might be worth including more in you "instructors" page.

Perfect! I really appreciate the time you have taken to prepare this post.

I have read way too many books on SEO ... ive got to the point where i realise that all the authors "guess" as Googles Algorythms are after-all Secret! The Brief you just gave me is right back to basics and exactly what i need to do. Never for a second realise the importance of photos. Will try make a start on that tomorrow.

I'm back in Scotland right now and experiencing the "Summer" first hand. I knew there was a reason that I didn't come back before now but couldn't remember what it was!
