Viewing Images in Blog Editor

Images in Blog Editor

User: Trevor Allan D. 9 years ago
When I drag an image into the blog editor area, either from the assets list or direct from outside Everweb, all that is inserted is the path of the file (text) alongside the text of the blog.
I'm using 2.0.2 with OS10.6.8.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Trevor,

That is certainly strange, can you tell me where you are dragging these images too.

Is it within the blog entry field where you actually type your blog posts?

A screenshot would be very helpful in determining what the issue is.

Dear Paul, Thanks for your prompt reply.

Looking at p35 of the manual it suggests a simple 'drag-where-you-want -it' method of placing images. For me that results in the 1st screenshot attached (just a text indicator of the image file's location if I drag to the editor window) That's what I've been getting consistently.

However it now seems that dragging the same image to the Preview block makes it appear simultaneously in the editing block, with the options to edit.

If I want to put an image into the Preview block's 'Master Page' mode for inclusion in all subsequent blogs, I must use the blog widget to select the image file and locate it on the page. But no editing of the image is possible, so it has to be sized etc outside of Everweb.

Is that correct? It's what's happening here, and it's not how I read the instructions in the Everweb manual.

Having said that, it's a brilliant asset to our webpages, and it now seems to do almost everything I'd like from it. It would be great to be able to add multiple images interspersed with a blog text but that doesn't seem to be possible at the moment.

I append a screenshot to illustrate what I get when I drag and drop an image file into the editor block, either from the assets window or from the original file elsewhere. The second shot is a result of dragging to the Preview window and then editing the image in the editor window where it now appears as a picture. It doesn't appear in any New Posts thereafter.

Thanks for your help and a great program and a great new feature.

Best Wishes
Trevor

Hi Paul,
I've just published the short page I was working on. I attach a screen shot of the published post viewed in FireFox, and another of what I had in my Preview Window.

Only 1 image per post possible?

HI Trevor,

Unfortunately it looks like the posted images are not appearing in the forum here. If you could upload them elsewhere that will help.

No you can just drop it on the blog post page but OUTSIDE of the blog widget object so it gets added to the post page instead of WITHIN the blog post.

Then you can resize it as you like normally in EverWeb.

You can do this.

It seems that you may be having some problems because you are using 10.6, I will have to do more testing on it.

You can add as many images to your blog post by dragging and dropping them on the actual blog post widget. They will all be added to the blog entry field and you can move them around once thy are inside there.

HI Paul,
I've followed your instructions as well as I can. I just logged in and wrote a detailed description of what's happening, and it hasn't appeared in the thread. I am logged in, so it's just disappeared into cyberspace. Here's a short but accurate version.

What I want to do is publish a post with images interspersed at appropriate locations to clarify the text.

Dragging to the editor area only produces file location text in both editor and preview locations: file://localhost/Users/tad/Library/Application%20Support/EverWeb/4490AE62B5A741C48B8D6D4CA4DF3C98.everweb/Assets/Images/IMG_1242.JPG

Dragging to the preview area (outside the widget):
1) does allow resizing and re-location in the preview area.
2) but places the photos in all of my other posts (not wanted) when they're dragged into position
3) doesn't work for the layout of the intended post page. When published the photos don't appear where they were in Everweb,

I can't spend any more time on this. Is it a 10.6.8 problem? If so, I'll just have to go back to the old laborious method pre v2.

Thanks for your help

Trevor
If screen shots would help, can you tell me what you need to see? The above accurately describes what's happening.

I've just read the manual again regarding all the post/preview area features. My problem seems to come down to not being able to put images into the editor reliably. As I said, I just get the file location text.

HI Paul,
I'm posting on both our websites, and by and large the software seems to be working, as long as I stick to the simplest format - a text post with a single 'header' image.

I can drag from Assets, the Media window, or the desktop onto the preview pane. On or off the widget area, the images are resizeable. They don't appear in the edit pane when dragged to the preview pane outside the widget. This was what I understood you were suggesting in your previous message. Also, any message dragged to anywhere on the Preview pane does show up in all posts.

If I drag to the edit window, I always get something like this:
file://localhost/Users/tad/Library/Application%20Support/EverWeb/4490AE62B5A741C48B8D6D4CA4DF3C98.everweb/Assets/Images/Blog%20insert.jpg
rather than an actual image.

Is this a limitation in the OS 10.6.8 version? If this is the best I can do, I'll just live with it and stop trying to do anything more ambitious.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I think that this is a limitation of 10.6. I need to let you know that support for 10.6 in future releases of EverWeb may be discontinued. This means the current version will continue to work but future versions may only be released to support Mac OS X 10.7+

Mac OS 10.6 is 7 years old already and we need to focus our attention on the future, especially because newer versions of OS X and macOS are free.

You should be able to drag and drop the image onto your blog post in the design canvas (the preview pane) of EverWeb and have it appear in the blog entry field. It needs to be dropped on the actual blog post widget within the design canvas though.

That should work for you and won't have it appear on all pages.

Thanks for your help Paul.
Does this also mean that the version I have (2.0.2) Is the end of the line in terms of bug fixes etc for version 2 on 1.6.8?
Still a great program as it stands.
Best Wishes

Hi Trevor,

It is unlikely, we may released 2.1 for 10.6. We are still evaluating what options we have.
