Viewing Default Styles

Default Styles do not work 100%... I set up styles for Links. When I make text into a Link it is hit and miss....Also, I choose entire word as a link but if I try to change something clicking on the entire word gives me an option to make it into a link but clicking on a part of the word (leaving out the first letter for example) shows the link I set up. It has been going on for a long time....
