Unable to Publish for Days

User: Nick K. 10 years ago
I haven't been able to publish my site in 3 days, and so far EverWeb and my third party hosting service, iPage, have been unable to help. Every time I publish, it published to about 70-90%, then I get a popup saying "Active FTP not allowed", "Unable to build data connection: Connection time out", or a message telling me to turn off passive publishing in my settings. Everweb tells me it is a problem with iPage, and iPage tells me everything looks fine from their perspective.

Some help chat representatives have told me to check "use passive publishing" in my Everweb preferences, others have told me to uncheck it. Some have told me to "temporarily disable firewall" on my computer settings, but I found it's already off. Some have told me to disable my antivirus, but I'm using Mac and there is no antivirus. One representive told me to change my server to mydomain.ipage.com, then another told me to change it back to ftp.ipage.com. One representative told me to change my port to 21, but it was already set to 21.

So far that's all I've got. None of the above is working. When I'm at home using WiFi, publishing never works. When I'm at work or using WiFi elsewhere, publishing works, sometimes only.

And ideas for what's going on?

Based on the additional information here, it could be something to do with your internet connection, but it is unlikely. It is impossible to know the exact issue because it is rare and dependent on many variables

EverWeb is just using a standard FTP connection to publish your files and then displaying the error messages that it is receiving from your web hosting provider.

This is why we offer EverWeb + Hosting, it is a streamlined service that will avoid issues like these. All of your web site needs are under one location where you can get quicker support and everything just works.

Nick -

I back what Paul has told you. I had one of my sites on GoDaddy and suffered through problems with them. I finally moved it to EW Hosting and things have been perfect the past 18 months. When I do have a problem their tech support is all over it quickly. The nice thing is they stay with it until the problem is fixed.
Also, the developer (Paul) is always available, and willing, to get involved to dig through your site code to see what's going on. I was sceptical in the beginning but this marriage of EW + hosting has been a homerun for me.
The cost is about the same and they handle the switch. In my opinion you can't go wrong.
