Publishing to FTP server

User: Adam G. 8 years ago
All the settings are correct.

I click - publish and Everweb informs me that it will continue in the background and let me know when it has done.

However, I see no activity, and nothing seems to happen.

To test it I removed the password, and Everweb blithely continued, telling me it was doing stuff, and still not doing anything...

Is it supposed to show me progress? Where does it put the temporary files before (not) uploading them?

Hi Adam,

Sorry for the problems you are experiencing.

1. Which password did you remove?

2. When you click your website name in the top left corner at the top of the Web page list do you see an error message?

3. What did you enter for your FTP server?

Hi Paul

I removed the password to my ftp server.

I don't see any error messages - I'm not totally sure where you mean, but I can't see anywhere.

I entered the same details for my ftp server as I use in Transmit, viz, ftp.getliff.net

Adam

update: I dragged the top of the sidebar down (to reveal the Create Master button) and now see the progress wheel.

But it's still not connecting to the server, BUT now it is giving an error message, which is some progress....

1. What is the error message that you are getting?

2. Do you have the Secure FTP option selected? Try toggling that option. Your FTP server needs to support FTP over SSL if you select this option

3. Did you try toggling the Passive connection option in Preferences Window->Publishing tab?

Hi

The error I was getting was that permission to access the subdirectory was denied, which is odd as there are no issues with that using Fetch.

I tried changing the various secure / non-secure options with no change.

I also note that now the progress wheel has disappeared again.

I have decided to go back to publishing to a folder and uploading using Fetch.

Console shows:

22/12/2015 07:17:29.696 EverWeb[3379]: FTPSync.SyncFolders: Logging in

And that's it. Apart from the other crashes:

tbh, I'm getting bored with trying to get it to work. I'll just use Fetch for ftp.

When you login with Fetch, you probably don't specify a directory/path. You probably select the location in your FTP client.

With EverWeb you need to specify the directory/path so that EverWeb knows where to publish to. The directory/path is probably entered incorrectly within EverWeb so that is why you are getting an error.

You should confirm the proper root directory from your web hosting provider and use that in EverWeb. Then it will work.

I have sorted it out.

EverWeb requires the root directory on the server, whereas Fetch determines this for itself (presumably via the redirect).

Getting the root path into the Directory Path box was not straightforward as it had problems with nested folders.

I found that completing the field with the directory name, THEN adding the path preceding this with the leading / worked.

e.g. /public_html/hanacreations/

For some reason previously this would not work.

What is frustrating is the lack of error message as the app seemed to suggest that there wasn't a problem when there clearly was.

All sorted now!
