Is this the final nail in the coffin of the traditional website? In most cases, I would agree. I have already made the case for creating a smart phone site first, then a tablet version and, if you really feel that you need it, a full site. Find out more in the TriSite demo. Touch devices used to be grouped into tablets and smart phones. Then came large smart phones and small tablets which created the “Phablet” category. Now we have the iPad Pro which has definitely crossed the line to take its place amongst the laptops. What do we call this category - Tabtops? Any website which has traditional style navigation, text hyperlinks and hovers are definitely not touch device friendly. To qualify as a user input on a touch device, an item needs to be 42px wide by 32px in height according to Apple. Google actually lets us away with a little less and doesn’t fail a navigation menu if the blocks are at least 28px high. I found this out when an EverWeb user told me that the Flex Widgets demo site passed the Google Mobile Friendly test but the Flex Basic site didn’t. This was because I hadn’t followed my own advice about the minimum height of the navigation blocks. Hovers are the other problem area. While most hovers will work with a finger tap, the process can’t be reversed on a touch device. This means that all hovers need to be replaced by touch to open and close. Text hyperlinks are obviously a thing of the past unless they are created using code with a minimum top/bottom padding of about 8px. All text hyperlinks need to be replaced with tab style CTA buttons. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb!
