Is there a way to alter the transition time between the pictures in the gallery slideshow (I'm on v.8, OS 10.6.8)? It's a very abrupt change.

Lightbox style slideshows in general don't have control over the transition time. What they do have, in some cases, is control over the animation time. The EverWeb Image Gallery is based on PrettyPhoto which doesn't have this adjustment. If you look at this demo of the Lightbox FX widget, you will see that the animation time is slower than the EverWeb Image Gallery but the image itself still appears abruptly. This widget does have a control for adjusting the animation time.
