Viewing Grid

Grid

User: pumpkin 13 years ago
Not sure if this has been asked before, but how about a grid layout, to align objects? Alignment guides are quite handy so far, but the more objects get on the page, the more difficult it becomes to align objects according to the page width (e.g. if I want to create 3 columns and make sure they are all equal at size and have the same distance from the page border).

Yes I know I can use the inspector to check the values, but a grid where objects could snap to would make things even easier ;)

No thanks, I don't want it.

If Roddy doesn't want it, he can turn it off. ;) I want grids too, and posted about this ages ago!

I see a blank page as an artist would see a blank canvas - not a chess board.

Seriously though, I don't see how grids are going to be any help with modern techniques using dynamic layouts and responsive designs. You may not be creating these today but you better had be tomorrow!

Having a grid would be useful. And yes, toggle on, toggle off!

Wouldn't hurt...:)

Being able to set up a grid and having objects snap to it when they get close helps me (not talking for anyone else) when it comes to designing my website.

Say I have text within an imported image and I want to align that with text on my page. The dynamic alignment features can't help me there. I've had to do this already and created a line just to give me some help. I used the line to line things up, then deleted it. But next time I make adjustments I have to do this all over again. So there's an example where a grid would help.

Agree with Christopher, though for my purposes, even more useful than a grid would be top and side alignment guides (horizontal and vertical lines) that you drag out onto your work area and then, once placed on the page, STAY there until you move them.

Ideally, in Preferences, you could assign different colors to the guides if and when the guides disappear due to their being the same color as an image. These guides have been useful to me dozens of times in iWork Pages for lining up text ... images. In fact, I found them so indispensable, I thought that perhaps EasyWeb already had them but I just hadn't yet stumbled on to them, So far, however, all I've found are temporary guides that quickly vanish once you let go of the mouse.

A user adjustable horizontal and vertical alignment guide sounds a lot more sensible than a grid.

I really don't see why any of this is necessary when using the Metrics inspector will position objects precisely.

Using the metrics inspector sure will do the job. But I don't want to use the metrics inspector all the time. Grids / alignment guides, whatever, would make alignment a lot easier. It's Easy(!)Web after all ;)
