I understood that if you use images on a webpage you can rename these using keywords to enhance SEO. How will it work when using same images in an image slider. Will Google recognize the names of images used in an image slider? Last edit 11 years ago |

Using HTML4, keywords to describe an image are added in the alt text attribute of an <img> tag like this... <img src="image.jpg" alt="descriptive text"> HTML5 takes this a step further by allowing us to wrap an image in a figure element and include a figcaption which the human visitors can read and the search engine spiders "see" as being related to the image. The Image Figcaption widget does just that and you can read about the advantages for SEO. Slideshows are created from a bunch of <img> tags or image links - or both. There are many ways to add keywords to sliders but the basic method would be to enter alt text for each image. It should be noted that the EverWeb default slider does not have this option. Here's an example of a bannner slider with an option for adding alt text. This can be taken one step further by adding a caption. The Caption Banner utilises the text entered into the alt attribute and displays it as a caption for the human visitors. The Hyperlink Banner, for example, allows the user to enter both alt and a caption which means that even more keywords can be added to the image. Even better, from the point of view of both the search engines and the visitors, would be something like the Minimal Slider which has alt text, an HTML heading for a "caption" and also a paragraph for descriptive text. Videos also need description for the spiders. Here's an example of how this can be achieved with HTML5 and a YouTube movie. The main ingredient in a successful web page is the text content. You should be able to remove all media content - images, slideshows, videos - and it should still convey the "message". This may sound ridiculous until you consider the fact that the search engine spiders cannot see the media content or listen to the music! A web page with a slideshow that doesn't have alt text, captions and descriptive text might as well be blank as for as the spiders are concerned and won't be of much interest to the human visitors either. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb!
