How do I get my site to open on 'Index'

User: Andy B. 11 years ago
I have uploaded a new website and when users type in my website address - chelmsfordwarmemorial.co.uk - into their browser I'd like it to open my page 'index' using this path:

http://chelmsfordwarmemorial.co.uk/Chelmsford_War_Memorial/index.html

However instead it defaults to 'the following incorrect path:

http://chelmsfordwarmemorial.co.uk/Chelmsford_War_Memorial/Home.html

How do I change it to the former?

When a visitor enters - chelmsfordwarmemorial.co.uk - into the browser, it opens the index.html file which is present in the root folder on the server.

EverWeb Changes the file name of the page at the top of the list in the left column to index.html - no matter what you name it in the application. Change the name of your "index" page to something else like "site-page-list" and drag it to the top of the left column.

Hi Andy,

It looks like you are using an iWeb site. It also looks like your FTP directory structure has been messed up.

EverWeb will use the index.html file name so that is why it sounds like you are using iWeb.

For the directory structure issue, you need to contact your web hosting provider as visiting your domain in my browser shows a bunch of directory names instead of taking me to your website.

You're so gullible, are you.

http://chelmsfordwarmemorial.co.uk/

The index.html file is renamed to index.txt.

http://chelmsfordwarmemorial.co.uk/index.txt

Now it doesn't redirect.

Hi,

This has now been resolved. I reloaded the new website and my web hosts added a .htaccess file to the root folder and now my website is loading the desired page.
