Safari slow to upload edits or goes wonky

When I publish site changes and then click on Visit Site Now to view it on Safari the changes do not appear. They are fine when viewed on Firefox, Opera and Chrome. It sometimes takes days for the changes to show up on Safari. Recently, the text on Safari was completely wonky - all sorts of fonts and crazy sizes appeared. Thanks - KF |

Safari is loading files from the cache rather than the new files on the server. You can select "Clear History and Website data.." from the Safari drop down menu or hit the refresh button a few times. Placing a ? at the end of the URL will also force the browser to load from the server rather than the cache. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! | Dear Roddy - I was trying to avoid the Clear History and Website data since that wipes out passwords. I did delete just the browser history, however, to no avail. Also tried refreshing the page and using the ?. I plan to go to the Apple Genius Bar this week. There are a lot of other Safari problems I am dealing with. Perhaps this is just one more aspect of that. Thanks - KF | |

Clearing History and Data should not remove passwords. Safari saves everything as you surf, and then it seems to save even more on top of that. A quick way to clear the Cache in Safari- open Preferences, click Advanced, at bottom click Show Developer Tools. After that you should see Develop at top of screen between Bookmarks and Window. Simply click that and click Clear Cache from the drop down menu. You may want to click Clear Cache several times to really clear it. I use a free program called CCleaner every time I leave the internet. You can choose what it deletes as it cleans. I am always shocked that Safari has a cache of a couple hundred mb when I only visited a few sites. |

It sometimes takes days for the changes to show up on Safari. It is impossible for your website to appear properly with the changes in other browsers and not Safari (especially if you have emptied the cache). If you look at the path bar in Safari (make sure to actually click it so that you see the full path), make sure it is the same as the one in Firefox and Chrome. It could be that you are looking at a different page in Safari. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

Kathleen I have had the wonky fonts issue many times and it has been non-dependent upon the browser (they show up wonky in Safari, Chrome, and Firebird.) I have not gotten a good answer on this yet, its very sporadic and hard to reproduce. It eventually caused me to have to rebuild the offending page from scratch. I think I have seen EW state somewhere that this can happen with a single text box that has lots of formatting going on, multiple fonts etc. The offending page did have such a box (which I changed when I rebuilt the page from scratch) but the wonky text was happening in a very simple on font text box. I am curious as to what machine and OS version you are one, I am on Mac OS 10.9.5 with a 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5 iMac. Last edit 11 years ago |

Liz: As mentioned now in my other recent replies to you, it is most likely related to your web hosting provider and their caching technologies. These are not needed for your website and are overkill. I recommend a regular web hosting provider or EverWeb + Hosting to resolve these issues. Your issues are fairly unique to anyone else but they are covered in the KB article you have read regarding caching of websites. Unfortunately this not something we can fix from our end and my above recommendation will save you money and resolve all these issues (most likely). ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |
