Floating Footer Problem

I have submitted the following message to technical support but because I am supposed to have this site running by a huge business event today I am hoping someone may be able to provide a solution immediately. I am still frustrated in the building stage of my new website after switching from iWeb a couple weeks ago. In EverWeb I am using the blank white Business 2 template then selecting my master page to create a new page for my site. I am copying mainly TextBoxes from other pages on this site that I am creating. As long as the height of the text box is shorter than the height of the screen everything is fine. The problem is that when I paste a TextBox that is taller than the height of the new page the footer does not make room by moving downward and remaining at the bottom of the page. This occurs whether I paste into a brand new blank page or with the Master Page option selected. When I try to drag TextBoxes within a page they will often have the same problem where the TextBox is extending far below the footer. Sometimes the colored shape of the footer floats up to the middle of the page and the text stays at the bottom. Other times everything from the footer raises but never together, always spaced apart. I have tried creating new pages over and over and copying entire TextBoxes as well as creating new TextBoxes and pasting text into them. The problem recurs almost endlessly. Sometimes when I drag a TextBox on an existing page it will also extend below the footer. Other times making the same dragging gestures it functions as I expect and the footer moves downward, allowing the TextBox to be placed lower on the page. Repeating the same procedures yields unpredictable results. Another issue that may not be related is that when I Preview my website on Safari there are frequently major differences in layout, fonts, and colors between what that shows verses what I see in EverWeb. Usually selecting Preview once or twice more provides an accurate preview. I have tried quitting and reopening EverWeb several times with no change in results for either of these issues. |

When using a master page, the pages which are derived from it all have the same content height. To increase the height of any page, place an empty text box at the bottom and drag it downwards by the required amount. When you see differences in the published version of the website it is usually due to the browser loading a cached version rather than the newly published one. In Safari, for example, you should select "Clear History and Website Data" from the Safari drop down menu. In any browser, you can force it to load the new version of the files - rather than the cached one - by adding a ? to the end of the URL or simply by hitting the refresh button a few times. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Roddy, what you described is exactly what is not working, which I guess I did not describe well enough in my original post. After receiving a response from technical support I see that I forgot to mention in my first post that I have also tried holding command while dragging and that the same problem persists. As for the preview function I did not realize there could already be a cache for newly made pages and just recently added texts that previously didn't even exist before that preview. Support said it is not unusual for difference to occur during preview but I will try adding the ? and see if it improves results. For the floating footer problem I still need a solution. |

Holding down the command key while dragging won't work since it will just allow the text box to be dragged into the footer. The browser will not cache files that have never been viewed before. You could also try publishing your site to a local folder and then testing that version to see if it resolves any problems. I create the master page with the header/footer content and a page content height of 900px. This is less than the absolute minimum content height required to prevent page jump on computers with large screens. I then create a template page based on the master page with a small empty text box at the bottom of the content area. When I need a new page I just duplicate the template, add the content and drag the box down as required. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Quote: When I try to drag TextBoxes within a page they will often have the same problem where the TextBox is extending far below the footer. For the text boxes that are not pushing the footer down, make sure the 'Allow free dragging' option from the Inspector->Metrics tab is not selected. When that is selected, the object will not push down the footer. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

Allow free dragging is not selected. Parts of the footer are still getting pushed down. Sometimes the footer will move, sometimes only parts of it move, sometimes none of it. Every time I try pasting a very large block of text the problem recurs whether I paste the entire TextBox into the middle of the page or into a new TextBox in the middle of the page. The same issue occurs with smaller TextBoxes as well, existing or new. |
