Do we need to add redirect code for Mobile TO desktop site?

User: Christopher 11 years ago
I've just gone over my analytics and it appears as if someone on a desktop was viewing my mobile site. Does google list mobile sites in their results if they are marked with m. or mobi. or mobile.?

Could it have been some of us following links in this forum?

Probably was. But still.. the question remains.

I had a lot of interesting reading about this, but no real answers. I even tried searching your site with m. in front and it would always come up with desktop site in search.
One thing I found is that some peoples browsers show mobile instead of desktop. I also found that those with an underpowered pc will look to use mobile sites due to faster loads, etc.
The good thing I found was a simple google tool that tells you if your mobile site is actually mobile-friendly, and mine is, with no issues. I also found that in December, google announced that if you do not have a mobile-friendly site, you get dinged in rankings.

If the info relating to the visitor's search criteria is on a mobile page - as well as on a full size page - it stands to reason that it will be listed in the search results.

To prevent computer and tablet users landing on the mobile page, use the reverse of the redirect code on your mobile pages.

I had not used my pc in awhile and fired it up this morning, I thought about this and did a search for cleetche. On the first page of results were 2 or 3 of the mobile pages which I was able to go to on pc

Thanks Jim. I'll be sure to insert the reverse redirect code. I guess if I upload site map's for both sites, I'm increasing my chances of someone finding me. So that's good :)

This doesn't work with EW. I'm working on a display that's greater than 600px so as soon as I add the code into my mobile site, the desktop version appears in the canvas. It's a mess. Is there another way to do this?

reverse redirect code.jpg
desktop overlapping mobile site

So StatCounter just revealed to me that some people are viewing my mobile pages on screens as large as 2560x1440. This could just be people on this site following my many mobile links. But just to be safe, I added the reverse redirect code. As illustrated above, I won't be able to work on my EW project without first removing it though. So I guess I'll have to get in the habit of just adding it back in before my final publish. Bit tedious. Maybe there's another way...

Hey, that reverse-redirect code has totally screwed up my EverWeb canvas. I removed it. Republished. Restarted the computer twice. Why is it still overlapping my two sites. I can't work! I'm going to open a ticket.
