Possibility to NOT upload a page

User: Jan K. 11 years ago
Hello, is it possible to add a feature so that I can have "work-pages", pages I do not need anymore but still want to keep in Everweb or pages where I can place some content in that I can use later.... I do not want to upload these pages in my folder.

Thanks!

That gets my vote too ! In iWeb I used to drag pages to be 'stored' down to another 'storage' project in the left panel but that can't be done in EW. This is handy when you have pages only used seasonally, say near Christmas, that you don't want the web spiders to find and make accessible to Googlers. Saves hassle with META tags etc.

I have inactive pages on my website that are on there but aren't included in my menu or linked to on any of my pages. When I want to use them I either add them to the menu or create a link to them on one of my active pages. Those who use my website have no idea they are there.

It's a good idea to keep "work" pages on a separate project file so that the items can be copied over to the "final" page in the correct order.

You can remove these pages from the navigation and upload them to the server but the problem is that the search engines will find them and index them. Paste this code in to the Head Code box in the Page inspector of every "work" page...

<meta name="robots" content="no index">

... to stop the spiders indexing them.

So how do we move the 'work' pages from one project file to another project file ? I can't find any way to do this, any advice much appreciated !

You can't move the whole page but you can copy over all the content. Do command A and then command C.

Duplicate your template page - or create a new one - and paste.

If you know that you are going to be using the page and its content in a particular project, why not just create it there, exclude it from the navigation and add the meta tag to prevent the spiders from indexing it?

We have lots of seasonal events on our heritage railway and are forever rotating pages in and out of the site. The issue with adding and removing the tags for us geriatric part time webmasters is remembering to remove the Head code when restoring the page. If removing the code gets missed then the page won't be indexed when it needs to be. I'll certainly give it a go anyway and see how it goes. Again many thanks Roddy for your advice.

If the pages are seasonal there is no need to add the meta tag. Just remove them from the navigation when they are not required on the site.

The meta tag would be used for "work in progress" pages which you don't want surfers to see because they aren't finished.
