More of a query than a feature request. I'm researching web design for newspapers and magazines. The idea of a grid based website is talked about quite a bit. After playing around with the idea I can see where it would be very helpful. It was also a subject discussed here about a year ago. Anyone have any thoughts on a scalable, toggle on and off grid for allinging purposes? |

I'm not sure what you mean by a grid based website. But for design purposes, I would love a grid and guides with snapping. Apple's Motion is a great example but I'm sure most editors incorporate this now.

laying out the elements of your website on a grid so page elements aren't layed out in a haphazard way. The '960 grid' system seems very popular breaking everything down to up to 12 colums, each of equal width allowing you to make the width of each element the width of a number of colums or rows. By doing that your webpage has order to it. Before retirement I was a 'Director of Photography and never gave the thought of laying out a scene on a grid any credance as it would be wrong and curtail all creativity. A website, especially for a newspaper or magazine is a completely different animal, using a grid has proven to make the site (or page) more easily readible. I thought a simple toggle on/toggle off adjustable grid would be an easily added feature that would be helpful for website element layout. |
