Viewing Photo Sliders with links/WOWSLIDER

Photo Sliders with links/WOWSLIDER

User: christianflook 13 years ago
I saw a few places posted around asking for sliders to be made stock in easyweb but since it is not around as yet maybe someone who is knowledgeable in the area could give the steps in creating a WOWSLIDER or similar in easyweb

Here's an example of Wow Slider in EasyWeb...

... and some links to alternatives.

EasyWeb allows you to insert the various sections of code in the appropriate place in the page HTML document. Images can be added to the Assets window in EW and their relative URL determined by control (right) clicking them.

Hopefully, in the next Beta release, we will be able to do the same for other files - such as CSS and Javascript - added to the assets list. Once this is implemented, adding just about any intermediate and advanced website features will just be a matter of copy and paste.

I'm kind of reluctant to create any more step by step instructions until the ability to add and link to external files is implemented. In my experience with supporting iWeb users, most of the problems came from people not understanding how and where to upload external files - and not getting the URLs correct. EasyWeb will make this task a no brainer with very little - if any - room for user error!

Please remind me if Photo Sliders are coming to EW.

I did start a topic about sliders in the hope that people would post their preferences since there are so many different types...

http://ragesw.net/easyweb-beta/viewtopic.php?f=6...t=108

Nobody seems to want to reveal their innermost desires in that area!

There are dozens of slideshows around - most of them with comprehensive instructions - and EasyWeb's code injection makes them simple to install. Perhaps, through time, EW could have Widgets for a few of the most popular ones but you would need to give the developers a clue as to what your criteria is for the perfect slider.

I use WIx.com and they have a slider I used on my front page.

Wix is one of the better online site builders. I tried their mobile site thingy before deciding to learn how to do it myself.

The problem with this way of creating websites is that they generate a huge amount of code so their performance in the browser isn't too hot.

I like to use a slideshow that I can change to suit the situation - banner, slideshow with controls only, thumbnails, thumbnail carousel or popup from photo grid.

Galleria can do most of the above...

... and Shadowbox is excellent if you want a thumbnail grid...

A lot of people who create websites don't seem to know the huge variety that's available now. Try Googling "jQuery+slideshow" and see what comes up.

Now that Internet Explorer actually works with CSS3, we're going to see a lot more sliders that use CSS keyframes and Transitions rather than javascript.

Those of you who want to make mobile compatible designs need to focus on responsive sliders like this one...

Notice how the images will finger swipe on iPad/iPhone and that the thumbnail carousel disappears on iPad Mini and iPhone.

Nice slider on home page.

Strictly speaking, a slider with no controls and autoplay is a banner.

Some, like your example, can have popup captions on mouse over, stop on mouse over and also each image can be a hyperlink to a page or file.

If you want a custom look you can create slideshow "stage" with drop shadow, border, whatever.

OK, then give me a Banner with no controls and auto play.

I agree, (cut and paste) a Banner with no controls and auto play. The most popular, perhaps WOW to start.

Here's a really simple banner created in EasyWeb using Mootools rather than jQuery...

Wow slider is probably about the best known of the jQuery sliders since it is heavily publicized and an advertising link seems to appear in very blog about anything to do with websites. The problem is that it requires a license in most cases. It can be used for personal and non-profit sites for free but the branding has to be left intact and who wants Wow Slider stuck on very image?

Galleria, on the other hand, is free to use and you only need to pay if you want to use any of the themes other than the default one - "classic".

Galleria is, in a lot of ways, better featured than Wow and is fairly easily customized. This example of a banner style (autoplay with no controls or thumbs) illustrates the use of captions and how the slider can accommodate images of different sizes...
