Can't upload Everweb version of website.

User: James R. 11 years ago
I finally got my iWeb site transferred to Everweb. I originally published to a desktop folder. Now I am trying to upload using Everweb. The site appears to upload, I get a sign saying that the site has uploaded and "Would I like to visit the site". I say yes and the new site appears. At this point none of my photo links work. I used the Photo Link Widget and they work perfectly when published to my desktop folder, but not now. Now I get a 404 error page on every link.
Then I go to the internet, type in my URL and the old site comes up. I have emptied the cache and uploaded several times, but no change.

Any ideas?
Thank you.

Where are you uploading the files - the EverWeb server or another one?

The site attached to your domain name is still the iWeb created one.

I am trying to upload it to my current server, MacHighway.

Sounds like your directory/path is not being entered correctly. Contact MacHighway to get your correct root directory and enter that in the root directory field in EverWeb.

If you have published two almost identical websites with iWeb, it should not be too difficult to find out where to publish.

In 2012 : http://www.cphsmemorialsite.com/CPHS/
In 2014 : http://www.cphsmemorialsite.com/

You are right, it should be simple. But the old files are not being replaced. All of the upload information is correct, and I login to the server.
I bought WebCrusher thinking that that might be different. But WebCrusher stops optimizing about 3/4 of the way through the job. I have a support ticket in on that one. Just waiting to hear back.

Please see my earlier response. You should tell your web hosting provider to wipe your server files. Then ensure you have the proper directory path. Only your web host can provide these details to you.

Please understand that EverWeb provides the mechanism to publish your site to FTP but it is required by you to ensure these details are correct. I addition your web host may also be caching your files on their end. This issue should be brought to their attention for further help.

I got it. I did not know that routers also cached files. I rebooted my router and now it shows up. Everyone else could see it but me.

Please explain in more detail what is happening so I can help you further. Let me know if you are getting any error messages when publishing.

I have a similar problem. I rebuilt my site using EverWeb. I had cleaned up the old content down to the root directory. Then I tried to upload using EW publish. I received the message that the site was being published in the background and that I would be notified when publishing was complete. But the next day there was no notification and no content. So I successfully uploaded the site using Filezilla. Yesterday I tried adding pages to the site. Like before I got the message that the site was being published in the background, etc. But this morning the added pages were not on the site.

My root directory is in a folder named "jdeyulia.com", and that is exactly what I typed into the field on EW's publishing screen. Should I also have added "http://"? What is the exact format for this field?

My website is at http://jdeyulia.com/
