I'm starting to create my mobile site and will do it as a separate project. I've published a few test pages so far.. On iPhone it is not possible for me to enlarge the images/text on the page by 'pinching'. I'd like to be able to do this so that users can read text or look at an image in a bit more detail. I also need to use some images on the mobile site. I'm going to try not too use as many as the normal site to help loading speed.... question is what is a good maximum size to use in terms of KB's? Lets say I just had one image on a page. What should its maximum size be to load fairly quickly on a wi-fi connection or fast cellular service? I'm about to use the 1.5 beta but have been using 1.4 so far. Del |

See THIS topic for info about reducing the image size using Preview. If you take the size of a smart phone screen - say it's 320 x 480 px - the biggest image size you would need would be double this for a retina device - 640 x 960. In practice, I would stick with a maximum size of 320 x 480 unless you are using an image whose content requires the user to see fine detail. Reduce the file size to as small as possible while maintaining a reasonable quality. I'm seeing too many users creating mobile sites with large images and slideshows. They don't seem to realise that this is sucking up their visitors download allowances and bandwidth limits. Even worse are the ones who claim that their conventional site looks fine on an iPhone and that they don't feel the need to create a mobile version. I wonder where they get that idea from and who they think is even going to bother browsing their site on a smart phone? ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Ok, Thanks. You da man.. If I use the 320x480 or maybe the odd 640x960 for Retina, how can I pinch to zoom in as happens on some sites I've been to? D |
