Mobile site not directing reliably

Hi I have a main site www.paleo-fitness.co.uk and a mobile version www.mob.paleo-fitness.co.uk. The box on the mobile site is ticked as mobile on each page. I have added Roddy's code to the header on the site publishing page. (I initially tried adding the link on the mobile settings box within Everweb itself but could not get that to work at all) When I type the main site name into a mobile device the mobile site comes up perfectly. I thought everything was great! But, I have just realised that if you click a link, for instance on my Facebook page, then it goes to the main site and not the mobile version. This is really disappointing as obviously a lot of people use Facebook on their mobiles (however, not all so I don't just want to use the mobile site as the link). Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Many thanks in advance, Julia Last edit 11 years ago |

I've been trying to quote the code I put in the header but it won't appear. I'll try again as the edit post doesn't give me any options.

The link on your facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/integratednaturalhealth points to : http://www.paleo-fitness.eu and has no redirect to a mobile page. The eu page differs from the co.uk page in the meta description text. BTW, your mobile page is at : http://mob.paleo-fitness.co.uk/ not http://www.mob.paleo-fitness.co.uk/ |

Hi JumboT, Thank you but you are looking at the visit website link on the Facebook page. On the About page is a direct link to www.paleo-fitness.co.uk and this does not redirect to the mobile site. Yes sorry the code in the header does say http://mob.paleo-fitness.co.uk. Also if I use the links from that master site paleo-fitness.eu, they also do not redirect to the mobile site. (the .eu site does not have a mobile version). I have attached the header code as I couldn't get it to show here. I have also just tried adding the code to each page of the site individually as well in case that made a difference and republished the entire site but no change. Any more help greatly appreciated. | BTW, excuse my ignorance but the mobile site appears (when typing direct from a non-mobile device) whether I put www. or not so it seems to be located at both? I didn't actually realise there was any difference. I've just tried altering the code to include the www. to see if that makes a difference. | |

I know the code. It's a stripped version of the code the EW application uses. And some browser by old habit add www when you don't type http:// in the address field. Yes, I saw the link on the Facebook about page now. I didn't expand the text. It links to the co.uk site with the same page. If it doesn't redirect to the mobile site, then the browser apparently has difficulty following the links. So basically there's is nothing wrong. Last edit 11 years ago |

| The EW version didn't work at all with any of my devices and I had no reply from Everweb regarding why it didn't work which is why I ended up using Roddy's. So you think there is nothing I can do? This is the same whether I use a htc desire, Galaxy 4 or Htc One. They never seem to have any trouble with mobile sites otherwise. | |

Quote: The EW version didn't work at all with any of my devices and I had no reply from Everweb regarding why it didn't work which is why I ended up using Roddy's. Where did you send your question to? What is your ticket number if you sent a ticket in? We reply to every single email so please let me know so I can look it up. The EverWeb code does work for mobile. The code provided by Roddy is essentially the same thing. You should use the feature within EverWeb because it is much easier to use and has the ability to return to a full desktop site if needed. Your Galaxy or HTC phone may have a larger screen which EverWeb would not consider a mobile device. Screens 700 pixels or less are considered moile. Roddy's code considers screen 600 pixels or less mobile so if that is the case using Roddy's code won't work for you. Instead, where it says 600 in that code snippet you would have to change it to a larger number to support your mobile device. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

Hi Paul, thank you for your answer however, as in my original question, the redirects were working on the mobile devices perfectly. I believe that a small change to one page on each main site the day before had probably caused the problem. After republishing all the sites in full last night they are now working fine on the Galaxy4, although there still seems to be intermittent faults from the htcs which, as Jumbo T pointed out, may be a problem with their browsers. This is unfortunate as they seem to handle mobile sites fine otherwise. When I have a moment I will try them with Firefox or similar. I had found previously that publishing changes did not always produce the right result but had hoped that v1.4 had corrected this. As it is, I will make sure to publish in full in the future just to be safe. I have moved my blog back to iweb hosted at Justhost as this is much quicker with small, daily changes (of course in part because it is now a much smaller site than the main ones). I did not Email a question because when I used that service near the beginning of my time with Everweb, I found the responses from Jeremy unhelpful, unknowledgable about macs and patronising. This was upsetting as my only previous experiences with Tech supports have been with Justhost and 1and1 and I always found them incredibly helpful and polite and an absolute pleasure to use, even years ago when I'm sure my questions were very basic. In fact its probably their fault, and the beauty of iweb that I ended up so entangled in my own website publishing! I would be very pleased to be able to use the EW mobile settings but, despite Jumbo T pointing out that the code had an extra / in it, which I could do nothing about from the programme side of things and despite numerous attempt could not resolve, I found Roddy's code to work fine and made my own return option to a separate non directed main site. Many thanks, Julia |

Can you please provide your email address or ticket number so I can look up your previous emails and take a look? I would like to see what the context of the emails are, I am sorry if they came off as unhelpful, I would like to look more into this. As for your mobile website issues I suggest you publish with ONLY the EverWeb mobile redirects with version 1.4 (publish your entire site from under the File menu) so I can take a look. I don't think it is a problem with the phone's browser but I need to take a look at your site. Everything should work fine in 1.4. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |
