Question about the files in the folder and load time of a page in internet browsers

I was wondering if making a lot changes on my page affects the speed of loading a webpage in the browser. I saw that when I make a change in the images or backgrounds Everweb saves a new image/file, the old one which is not anymore in the website is still in the folder, so it's not getting deleted automatically. This causes that the image folder is polluted with a lot of trash and extra files. which causes that the website is also bigger and makes uploading the website slower. I have tested this by saving my project in a new folder: the normal folder had a size of 41.2mb and the new folder has a size of 31.2mb. For my feeling the website became slower, especially with browsing on a mobile phone, so my question is do these files which are in the folder but not displayed in the website affect the loading time of a page? |

These extra files don't slow the web page download time in the browser - they just take up space on the server. You are getting rid of them by publishing the site to a different folder but you also need to delete old the folders on the server before uploading the new ones. Images that are used on a conventional site are far too big for a site that is viewed on a smart phone. You need to cut down the file size for the mobile version of the site. Otherwise visitors are are using up large chunks of their data allowance downloading them. The mobile version of the website should not contain amy shape images either. Graphics should be created using CSS rather than images. See the Mobile section of the EverWeb Codebox website for more info. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Quote: I was wondering if making a lot changes on my page affects the speed of loading a webpage in the browser. Images not used on your website will NOT slow it down as Roddy mentioned. EverWeb does not yet remove deleted images, they simply take up space. You can work around this by deleting your website folder or publishing to a new folder location. That way these files won't be there. You will have to delete them from your FTP server though. We will be implementing a feature that removes these unneeded files. However, for the time being, they only affect the file space on your server and DO NOT affect the speed of your website. When publishing your site, they will not be uploaded again if they already exist in your server. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |
