How to avoid spam emails?

User: pumpkin 12 years ago
For about 2 weeks, I'm getting spam emails from one of my websites. I don't have the email address linked any way on the side. In the footer it just says "xxx (at) singkehlchen (dot) de" to get in touch. Seems that's not enough to avoid spam bots.

Any way (other than creating a graphic containing the email address) to avoid getting spam mails?

Not really. You can use the convert text to images feature under the Text tab in the Inspector to do this easily.

What about using the contact form widget? That would help with spam...

That's not the solution I'm looking for ;)

@Steve: thanks, I already have a contact form on the page, but some visitors still prefer using the email-adress instead of the contact form. That's why I'd like to keep both.

The contact form would prevent bots from scanning your site and getting your email address.

You are quite right about this. I detest contact forms and almost never fill them out - especially if they have captcha.

An email text link or button is essential and is definitely the best for mobile sites since the visitor doesn't need to fill out their name, email or the subject line.

If you are using the mail service on your server you are going to get lots of spam. What I do is set up an email like "info@mywebsite.com" and set it up as a redirect to a Gmail address. Gmail collects most of the spam and the Junk folder in Mail on the Mac collects the rest.

Any that slip through that lot get deleted or, when I am in a bad mood or need light relief, I send a reply which will leave anybody reading it in no doubt as to what my opinion of spammers is.
