For a committed iWeb user Everweb just couldn’t have come soon enough! I really admire the ease of use that I so liked in iWeb and have now transitioned the three web sites that I have designed into Everweb-designed ones. Of the three, one is still at the testing stage but two are working properly, having gone live a couple of weeks ago. I have now used the Master Page in the last version (1.3 Beta 2), having previously designed my own work-around, and find it invaluable. However, as always, there are a number of areas that I am hoping you will be able to fix in the next updates, post 1.3 FR3 which I have just downloaded but not installed yet. 1. Allowing text to flow around images/inserted graphics. This is probably top of my ‘must have’ list. Without it, it makes for awkward reading when I have to break text boxes, insert an image and then start with a new text box again – unless I have missed something! 2. When creating a new page the tick box to automatically add the page to the navigation is ON by default, appearing to result in an automatic update to the WHOLE site even if the tick box is later turned off. Not every page needs to appear in the navigation menu so would it not be better, when creating a new page, to default this to OFF until the time comes to go firm on a decision? 3. A Help and Support section similar to Codebox (done I believe, independently by Roddy McKay) on the RageSW web site would be wonderful. Codebox is great but sometimes it is still too technical, assuming that users have a pre-existing level of skills, when many I’m sure will be like me – self taught using the ‘just enough to get by’ technique! Remember, if producing a recipe for rabbit pie the top item should be “First, catch your rabbit!” – never assume anything. 4. When creating hyperlinks from text I have noticed that what I thought was a single stage operation; highlight the text, add the URL or page link in the Inspector and then determine the colour of the text and whether there is underlining, actually seems to involve an additional step. 99% of the time I have to go back to the inspector, then click in the text box to highlight the text and then click again on the hyperlinked text before using the Inspector to change the values of the hyperlinked text colour and underlining. Is this just me (which I don’t think it is) or is this a bug in the system? 5. I would like my navigation bar to always remain in view, allowing the remainder of the page to scroll past. Whatever I do (and I’ve tried to followed the method outlined in Codebox) I can’t get it to stick. Allowing that option too in the next update would be great, or failing that an easy-to-follow help guide would be wonderful Having said all that I must add that overall I am really delighted with Everweb. Over the years I have tried most of the other web site design programs, including Dreamweaver, and fallen at the first fence. Whilst I am proficient in page design using InDesign, Illustrator, Quark Xpress and Photoshop, for some reason my brain has never managed to master anything other than iWeb for web design – until now! Keep up the brilliant work whilst I spread the WORD. |

Thanks for your suggestions. We are working on issue number 1. The second issue should also be addressed because you're right, that is annoying. Quote: 3. A Help and Support section similar to Codebox We do have your knowledge base. And our video tutorials. If there is something specific you need, let us know. Quote: 4. When creating hyperlinks from text I have noticed that what I thought was a single stage operation; Sounds like a bug, it's something we can fix. Quote: 5. I would like my navigation bar to always remain in view, allowing the remainder of the page to scroll past. This is something we will add in a future version. Again, thanks for the suggestions and glad to hear you are liking EverWeb. We are working hard to deliver more features and enhancements. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

[2] This would need to be set in preferences. I would prefer the box to be unchecked but I'm sure this would puzzle some users when the page didn't automatically appear in the menu. [3] The information for catching the rabbit starts HERE. The method of catching the rabbit varies with the situation and there's never just one way! [4] Apparently only a select few of us have problems with creating external hyperlinks. I avoid it by setting a default using the Format menu. Both this, and working with text in a box, have raised a few questions in the past as these operations are certainly less intuitive than they were in iWeb. [5] Fixing the navigation is not something that should be done without carefully considering the content of a each page as it decreases the available content area. If you have a page with a slider with a carousel at the bottom, and it's viewed by someone on a laptop with dock situated at the bottom, things can get quite tight. Try viewing THIS page on a Macbook Air with the dock at the bottom of the screen. In the Codebox website, the whole header has been fixed - not just the navigation - so it has been kept to a minimum height. Most users seem to like large, extravagant headers with lots of info and these are just not suitable for fixing. I suppose you could fix just the navigation as shown in the frame on THIS page. Step by step instructions are time consuming to create and it takes even more time to answer the emails of those who didn't follow the correctly! Perhaps it might be an idea to have a repository for user created instructions or a section in this forum for User Tips. Having said that, the iWeb forum has thousands of posts but only one user tip. Guess who was the author of that one? ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb!
