Transfer projects to a different machine?

User: Robert G. 10 years ago
We started development on one machine. We need to move the development to another machine because of performance issues. We installed EverWeb on the second machine and connected to the first. We tried to open the project on the first machine from EverWeb on the second but ran into "Could not create database".

What files do we need to copy over to the new machine to continue development?

You just need the .everweb project file. Just make sure you do not rename the file.

Thanks! It took me a bit to find the file. For others that are attempting the same, the project file can be found in
/Library/Application Support/EverWeb

It has a number for the name and extension of .everweb

Be sure to update the path/folder in the project if you are going to publish the site to a different folder. It appears that the project file contains all the assets for the website.

You don't need to browse to the EverWeb folder using the Finder.
Select any project in the Projects window and control (right) click it to "Show On Disk".

You could also house your site on a cloud like DropBox so all Macs using the same DropBox account can access the files - then create an alias of the .everweb file mentioned above and place that in Users/{Your account name}/Library/Application Support/EverWeb

I'd suggest creating a folder in DropBox called something like "Website files - DO NOT DELETE" as it would obviously cause a big problem if one of the editors were to damage or delete the EverWeb files.

Because DropBox is housed on each computer attached to the account there's actually a backup copy on each, and if you use TimeMachine for backing up then the chance of ever losing your website is very low.
