Awesome feature, having those two widgets. Really love it. But - I hope it's a bug - I added a mp3 using the new audio widget and previewed a test site in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Safari and Chrome had no issues, Opera and Firefox only show a black bar, no controls and no way to play the file.

Firefox/Opera cannot play MP3s which is why you need to use an OGG file when using the HTML5 audio tag. To overcome this, the Mediaelement player used in the widget falls back to flash for these browsers and older versions of Internet Explorer. The SWF file is in the wrong location. Once this is added by the developers, it will work in all browsers. The other point to note about flash fallback is that it usually won't work locally on your Mac due to the security settings. You need to upload to the server for it to work. Here's a version with the SWF file added for you to try in Firefox... http://roddymckay.com/EasyWeb/test/mediaelement-audio.html ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! | I really appreciate Paul adding this feature which is great news but I have the same compatibility issue here. Thanks Roddy too for this further info, what I noticed is that with the last version of iWeb, you can drag an MP3 in and it worked happily on both Safari and Firefox so I don't know if Apple were using HTML5 or something else? It would be great if EW could behave in the same way if that's possible to do :) | |

Thanks for your explanations, Roddy. It doesn't seem to work in Opera though.

iWeb uses the QuickTime plugin to play audio and video. This was never satisfactory since a huge number of Windows users don't have it. The advantage of players like the mediaelement is that they use HTML5 which doesn't require a plugin and will only resort to flash playback when absolutely necessary. These players can also be customized fairly easily and some examples are shown here... http://www.ezmacwebdesign.com/Demo/audio-player-master/audio-players.html I have never tested the player in Opera since it is a minority browser but it should work if the browser has the flash plugin installed. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Right, maybe it's because I've installed Opera recently without having installed flash again for the use with Opera.
