Why can't we duplicate Directories?

User: Christopher 12 years ago
If I duplicate a directory, it turns into a page, indented under the Directory it's copied from. Does this mean we cannot duplicate Directories? Or am I doing it wrong?

Also, apart from Directories added to the Nav bar offering a drop down list, what's the difference between them and Pages? I have a few pages that will not have dropdowns but are independent of one another. Should I make them pages or directories? Does it matter either way, in terms of code efficiency?

Despite what EasyWeb does, a directory is a folder and not a page.

I really think this directory business needs to be sorted out as it just creates confusion by using an index page.

For me it turns into a directory under the directory it was duplicated from.

Can you post a screenshot of your web page list after you have duplicated it?

They are just a way to organize pages. Eventually directories will be able to be password protected though.

Okay you're right, they are directories (with the tab arrow). They just looked like pages because they indent under the heading above it. Does it matter if I made one of my pages a directory? Do I need to make it a page?

Directories can be "indented" because you can have multiple levels of directories.

It doesn't really matter if you made a page a directory just that your URL will have the directory name/index.html instead of simply the page name.

Paul

How can I have sub directories showing within the drop down menu? Currently I can't manage to get sub directories to display in the drop down menu?

If this isn't possible how can I revert a directory back to a normal page, after it has been converted to a directory?

At this time, it's not possible to have a third level in the default navigation although I seem to remember it being mentioned that the feature will be introduced at some point.

You can of course create your own navigation with as many levels as you want and this task has been made a lot easier with the introduction of master pages.

Probably the easiest way to convert the directory to a page is create a new page, do a Command A and Command C to select all and copy everything from the directory, paste the items to the page using Command V and then delete the directory.
