Directory for a made-from-scratch site

Not entirely sure how to put together a Directory when I've created a site from scratch. Most of what I've read seems oriented toward templates. (I realize that when you duplicate a page on the left, what you've got is something like a template. But I'm not sure it's the sort of template referred to in the explanations I've read.) The thing is, I'm not clear on how to get this Directory together on my made-from-scratch site... Is there, for example, a way to use absolutely no code to make a template that would appear along with the other 'official' templates? I'm guessing there isn't one along the lines of the template-creation technique in iWork Pages. At any rate, to get to the point, here's my question... Say I have a Menu item called "Info." Then say I want to have pages in the submenu titled "Books" "Videos" [and] "Sites" -Can you suggest a simple step-by-step approach-again, without a speck of code- for the absolute beginner (obviously me!) to create this Directory? |

Create your "template" page. Create a directory using a blank white page and name it "info". Leave this page blank. Duplicate your "template" page as many times as you need to and name these pages "Books", "Videos" and "Sites" Drag these pages into the directory. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! I'm getting a series of crashes from attempting to create the directory. I trashed the directory so that I could start over and I'm still getting the crashes. First, I'm wondering how to use my backup... Do I merely go into my Library/Applications/EasyWeb folder and trash the file ("B") with the big number-then replace it with the similar file that I backed up on my flash drive? Second, I'm not exactly sure what went wrong. So below is what was suggested that I do, along with what I actually did. Maybe you can see where I got into trouble. Roddy: Create your "template" page. What I did was merely create copies on the LEFT of earlier pages-made three of them-my version of a template. (I don't know how to make a "real" template that would go up in the "real" template section when you start a web site.) Roddy: Create a directory using a blank white page and name it "info." Leave this page blank. I did that, got a white blank page with blue directory names in caps at the top. Roddy: Duplicate your "template" page as many times as you need to and name these pages "Books", "Videos" and "Sites" I did that, again over at the LEFT where the pages are. Roddy: Drag these pages into the directory. I dragged the pages over into the white space. And I saw the three page titles in small blue capital letters, staggered across the page on different lines. When I attempted to publish to a folder, that's when I crashed-about four times. Couldn't fill out the crash report. Note: This is the kind of issue where I've found in the past that it's highly useful to be able to get live phone tech support. I understand Rage feels free tech support isn't feasible and it's considered that a lot of time is wasted on the phone. On the other hand, I think some sort of phone support for a fee would be extremely worthwhile. Thanks for all your help / John |

If you are getting crashes you MUST send these reports to us so we can tell you what the problem is and fix them. If we don't have crash reports there is no chance that we will be able to fix the problem. Quote: First, I'm wondering how to use my backup... Do I merely go into my Library/Applications/EasyWeb folder and trash the file ("B") with the big number-then replace it with the similar file that I backed up on my flash drive? Yes Quote: I did that, got a white blank page with blue directory names in caps at the top. That is your navigation bar widget at the top of your page. You can remove that if you want. Quote: I dragged the pages over into the white space. What is the white space here that you are referring too? Quote: And I saw the three page titles in small blue capital letters, staggered across the page on different lines. I assume you mean then that you dragged your pages onto the EasyWeb Design area. That is NOT how you make directories or add pages to directories. Drag your webpages into the directory folder on the left hand side. It looks like it's all my fault. Instead of, "Drag these pages into the directory" I should have said, "Drag these pages into the Directory folder". ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! If I remove the Navigation Bar widget, might that fix the crashes? If I do remove it, then save, does it just recreate itself based on the pages on the left? Also, for now, is there any way to get rid of the main navigation Directory item at the top without messing up the entire navigation bar? Finally, though I did look over the tutorial on creating a directory, what confused me was it seemed oriented toward creating an EasyWeb site where you begin with a template. I'll check it out again. I posted info on crash in the "Bug Report" section of the Forum. Is that the right place? |

Still getting the crashes from publishing to folder... Installed the Beta. Crashes began soon after I created the directory so I trashed it and the subdirectories. This doesn't have anything to do with my not being registered, does it? I thought there was no need until the final release unless you were doing the hosting-though I did get a message about needing to register before publishing to folder. The error message I got is the one I mentioned before: "This application has created an error in its programming. An exception of class... Exception was no handled. This application must shut down." Got any ideas about troubleshooting this? Thanks. |

You need to send in the crash report. Crash reports can be found in the User library in the Home folder. If you are running OS X 10.7/10.8, open the Finder Go drop down menu and hold down the Option key then click "Library". The crash reports are in Logs/DiagnosticReports so the full path is ... ~Library/Logs/CrashReports A crash report will look like this... ![]() Double click it to open and check the time and date to select the latest one. You can zip it by selecting it and then selecting Compress in the Finder File menu so that you can attach it to an email. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! I did try to send it in to the address that Paul gave me for crashes: (http://www.ragesw.com/support/0. I found the setup once I got to Rage not terribly clear. Lots of little boxes to fill out that seemed to take it for granted that I was registered i.e. had paid up-and I hadn't.. Not used to this sort of setup, I'm not sure it went through. Will try what you outlined, however, |

Quote: I found the setup once I got to Rage not terribly clear. Lots of little boxes to fill out that seemed to take it for granted that I was registered i.e. had paid up-and I hadn't.. There is no need to be registered to send an email through the form on the link I sent you. What exactly did you not understand? Please be clear on what lead you to believe you need to be registered to fill out that form so we can improve the process. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |
