I just started today working to recreate my iWeb design. The fonts that I needed for precise design are not available in EasyWeb (Helvetica Neue, ultralight, turns into 'light' which changes the whole look of my site). The current interace is probably fine if you're starting from scratch on a simple website or are using a template, but it's nowhere near ready for prime time. My work crashed three times after quite a bit of effort was put in to trying to get a 'template' page I could use throughout the website. I lost most everything. I paid to get web hosting so I could use EasyWeb. Now I"m not sure that was a requirement. I mistakenly thought this software was much further along than it is. I only paid for one month of hosting, but even that was $11 down the drain for hours of work lost. The directories are a wonderful idea. I see lots of promise in this project and I think after many, many more months of fixes, this MAY be a great program, but for now, I don't have the time or will to attempt to settle for trying to produce a website that can only look inferior to the one I already created using iWeb. I'll delete EasyWeb from my computer and keep my lips sealed online about all this. I'm not willing to pay money to work so hard for unusable results. Wish it had gone better. Good luck. |

You need to send us these crash reports. It could be a simple fix but without seeing them we can't fix the problems.

There's no point in using Helvetica Neue for "precise design" unless all your visitors are using Macs. It's not a web safe font and, as far as I know, not installed on Windows machines. For a font that you specify in your styles to render correctly in the browser it has to be either installed on the visitors computer or hosted. EasyWeb goes way beyond iWeb in that it makes it really easy to install non web safe fonts. If you select one of the hundreds of fonts made available by Google, EW will automatically link to it on the Google server so that all your visitors will will be able to see it rather than just the ones who have it installed on their computers. Helvetica Neue is not available from Google - or as a download from places like Font Squirrel. If you really want to use it for web design you would need to install it on your own server in all the different font formats. I have found the latest versions of EasyWeb to be very stable and haven't experienced any crashes with Beta 16. It would really help the rest of us users if you would send in the reports. Crash reports can be found in the user library in the Home folder. If you are running OS X 10.7/10.8, open the Finder Go drop down menu and hold down the Option key then click "Library". The crash reports are in Logs/DiagnosticReports so the full path is ... ~Library/Logs/CrashReports A crash report will look like this...  Double click it to open and check the time and date to select the latest one. While I believe the Energy Practictioner abandoned ship too early, I can see why he got frustrated and left. I'm having crashes daily. I've been sending my reports to Paul via email. I just sent one half an hour ago. They're all for different things: changing fonts, changing colour of a text box colour fill, publishing to folder, etc. So it still does feel very beta to me too. What is the actual ETA of this software being ready for market with full pricing listed? Any ideas? Re: the Op's comment about fonts, these things are not immediately apparent to the first time web designer which is why I earlier recommended a One-page kind of FAQ or Start Up doc to cover the basics of web design: Understanding fonts, whether to tag photos with a colour profile or not, how to best optimize your site for Google searches, etc. Apple was very good about this with their video editing software (FCP, Motion, etc.) - keeping it really simple/stupid. Sure, these forums are becoming a plethora of valuable knowledge. There's at least a couple of posts regarding websafe Fonts, I think one even started by me. But if it's not upfront, and easy to find, people like our friend here will blame the software and bail. One request I'd like to re-emphasis (posted elsewhere) is GRIDS! Yes, I can use the centre-alignment, and yes my preferences are set for everything... but Grids (used everywhere else: Motion, Photoshop...) would be really, really appreciated! Grids .... I'll second that. Snapping Grids like in Freeway Pro would be awesome too :)
