Three problems: persistent artifact in mobile pages; upload failures; 404 error

User: Graham F. 6 years ago
#1: I have a persistent artifact on some of my mobile pages. An arrow I created is visible on the mobile version only. I have checked the pages and their master pages and see no arrow. I have refreshed the pages when I look at them on my smartphone - to no avail. In edit mode, I use 'Select All' and the arrow is neither shown or chosen. I have sent items on the Master pages 'to the back', to see if they somehow cover the arrow. Other ideas?

#2: I have an inconsistent upload failure of an item called 'shape_22.png'. This is not a name I have ever given to an item, but I suspect it may be a screenshot I took of a country's flag and renamed to that country. Where do I find this item in any EW Directory? It's not in the list of Assets either.

3#: I have a persistent 404 Error (too many redirects) for one file I try to upload. It is not at all different from another file I upload at the same time. It is clearly in the Assets list and is set to appear on the same page as the other. A mystery that needs solving.

I've spent hours on these problems, so any hints would be greatly appreciated. Even one solution would make me happy; two would make me very happy; three? I'd be ecstatic and forever grateful. Well, I'll be grateful for ALL ideas, to tell the truth.

You need to post the URL to the problem page(s) to get help with this.

HI Graham,

Roddy is correct, we need to see the web page in order to provide solutions for you.

1. You can try using the Window->Show Layout feature to try and find this artifact but its impossible to know what the issue without seeing what you mean.

2. Those names are for custom shapes you add to your site using Insert->Shape for example. Do you get a specific error message? Where are you uploading your website to?

3. I would have to see the exact URL that is producing this error to help further.

Please provide the URL and I'll be happy to help you get this issues resolved ASAP.

Persistant artifact (blue arrow): this is not visible on the non-mobile web page, nor in Preview, nor when I view the website after publishing to a folder. I publish, for reasons I won't explain here, to 1and1 in Germany. I wish I could publish to RAGESW in Canada!

Paul: the red blotches you see may be the guidelines I have created for placing text on the pages. I wish EW had some built-in guides to use instead, but maybe that will be a future feature. I'll remove them in the next few minutes to see if it makes. difference but it may take a while for the entire upload.

The 404 Error comes from the topmost link in this list of documents. The one immediately below was loaded at the same time and was successful. At first I thought it might have been due to the non-web friendly character called the German umlaut, so I removed them. Still won't link to the document after several tries.

Ooops, I forgot the link.

I did a final Synchronisation over dinner and the link now works. One down, two to go. Plus, note that on the page for Andorra, there are also three more navigation buttons to the right of the one you do see, but do not appear in the mobile version for some reason.
