Viewing Assets/Images

Assets/Images

User: Jackie W. 6 years ago
Wonder if anyone can help, when searching on Google one of my images appeared, which of course is great However, this image was larger (1200x1200 pixels) than I would have liked it to be and it said it was linked to an external file, which I have never used. When I checked my website and downloaded the same image from it the size was much smaller 479x479 pixels.

Also the title and link on the image was incorrect in Google.

I decided to check out my assets list and when I clicked on the relevant image, selecting to find which pages are using this asset, approximately 20 pages highlighted! I am confused as the picture is not on these pages or in the background.

Just wondered if anyone could shed some light as the support ticket I raised is not being very helpful.

I wonder if I delete this image from my assets list it would solve the problem.

Thank you

Jackie

PS apologies if this is bit garbled but I found it hard to clarify in mail.

Hi Jackie,

Sorry for the problems you are experiencing.

The issue is probably because you have added the image to your assets at this size but you just resized it on specific pages.

It could also be that you have linked to this images then it will be added to your external files directory.

Without seeing your website, and a page that EverWeb says is using this image, it is impossible to tell.

Thank you Paul, yes I see that I have added the image to my Assets at this size but it is not in my External files directory but if I have a link from one page to another via this image will it add it to my external files directory? But why does it not show at the bottom under External Files in my assets list.

But the biggest conundrum is about 20 pages showing up saying it is showing this image on the page when it is definitely not there and it is causing problems within Google. If I put in the linked file address into google search approx 20 of my pages, the ones indicated they are using this image, come up in the list! Its not good for traffic to the web.

I have uploaded the project file for it to be looked at by Everweb and they said just to wipe the web clean from my hosting site and re-upload the pages however, how will this change anything if, when I look at the site on my computer and it is still showing this image as being used by these 20 pages, when I reload the whole site nothing will have changed.

To be honest I am a little disappointed with the support on this matter as I don't seem to have got any further and nothing has been clarified. I know I am not the best web master but I think I know a little and I know that this needs to be treated at source before it gets uploaded.

I also find it frustrating that I cannot call anyone simply because my site is not hosted with you. I had a contract and paid up front for that so was considering changing to Everweb when this finishes in October but may reconsider.

I would appreciate any help as i want my website to work effectively. Thank you

Sometimes it will be out in the external files directory if you use the image with some widgets.

Can you provide the following;
1. The published URL of a page that EverWeb says it the image is being used on
2. The name of the image

I don't understand what you mean by this. Why exactly is this a problem?

The reason is because it takes a lot of resources to provide 1 on 1 support so phone support is provided to users on the more expensive EverWeb plans only. We would like to provide phone support to everyone, but we just cannot do it considering the costs involved.

We do provide 24/7 email support, as well as help here, as you know.

Thank you Paul for your prompt reply.

Your support team suggested I remove the image form my assets, reload it and see if it solves the problem with the other pages using that image and it appears to have done so. I did think of doing this myself but was concerned that it may cause further problems. It has not so that problem is solved, hopefully now.

You have also answered my other issues and I take on board what you say about the telephone support.

Thank you Jackie
