Test My Site with Google suggests Configure the viewport

User: J. Christopher D. 6 years ago
Test My Site with Google suggests Configure the viewport as an improvement for my mobile site. Clicking through to the explanation of what this means includes an amount of code to include in the page header:

<meta name=viewport content="width=device–width, initial–scale=1">

Does this work with EverWeb sites? Is there something else I should do instead.

Thanks!

Hi,

Sure! You can add this code to the Head Code section in the Site Publishing Settings (File - Edit Publishing Settings) and publish the website. That's pretty much it!

Hi Max,

Thanks for the quick reply! Should I apply this to the entire site or just the mobile page in Head Code section of Header Footer Code?

I recently posted a link to information about using and inserting Meta Tags.

The viewport meta tag is new under HTML5 and tells the browser how to deal with browser/device width and scaling.

There's not a lot of point in including it in your full site pages unless they are responsive or contain full width items which need to scale down for iPad users. Here's an example of a page which contains a responsive header/nav, a full width, fixed height Hero banner and a responsive content widget.

EverWeb sets the viewport width to the content width set in the Page inspector. If your mobile site is created using Responsive techniques, using any of the mobile or responsive widgets from the new EverWeb Widgets site, the viewport tag is inserted for you.

Find out more about creating a responsive mobile website with EverWeb HERE and how to test the pages for compatibility with the various devices.
