Viewing Downloadable MP3 files
Downloadable MP3 files

I'm a voice actor and potential clients need to not only hear my demo reels but download them as well. What is the method to add downloadable MP3s to my site? I thought creating a button with a URL to the MP3 would give me what I'm looking for, but when clicked, the MP3 opens a player. I'd like it to just download to the user's Download folder. My expectation is the action/response when a download button is clicked on another page I own (TheNarrator.biz). The result is what's happening on the EverWeb page (JChristopherDunn.com). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Chris |

You need to create a ZIP file for it to download when the link to it is clicked. You can select your MP3 and then select "Compress" from the Finder file menu to convert it into a .zip. The problem with this is it upsets and confuses Windows users. To create a PC compatible ZIP file, use the freeware YemuZIp. Drag the ZIP file into the EverWeb Assets List and link to it in the usual way. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! That's a great idea! Creating a ZIP file is one way to go. However, my preference is to not create additional files and to make the process platform friendly. It seems like a basic feature. The link for downloadable files on TheNarrator.biz are formatted like this: http://thenarrator.biz/audio/download.php?file=J_Christopher_Dunn_Audiobook_Demo.mp3 The like for what I've linked as downloadable MP3 on my EverWeb site is this: http://www.jchristopherdunn.com/ewExternalFiles/J%20Christopher%20Dunn-%20Commercial%20Demo-ST.mp3?iframe=true&width=300&height=300 Is there an HTML equivalent for EverWeb? |

The first thing you need to do is tidy up your files names to replace the spaces with hyphens like this... J-Christopher-Dunn-Commercial-Demo-ST.mp3 Create the file as a zip to get... J-Christopher-Dunn-Commercial-Demo-ST.zip The the absolute path will be ... http://www.jchristopherdunn.com/ewExternalFiles/J-Christopher-Dunn-Commercial-Demo-ST.zip ... but using the Link to: function in EverWeb will create a relative file path which is much more efficient. This part is meaningless... ?iframe=true&width=300&height=300 ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! It all makes sense and my wishlist entry would be for EverWeb to provide support for a more elegant way of downloading MP3s. With storage space and bandwidth as they are, ZIP files are so last century. Thanks for the help! | |
