Viewing New Widgets

New Widgets

The new EverWeb Widgets site is now up and running with over 200 new widgets for use with EverWeb V 2.1 and above.

The widgets range from basic elements for fixed width designs to responsive widgets for the more advanced user.

Many of these widgets use the newer EverWeb Widget API controls which allow us to create lists and tables, better image galleries and fairly complicated responsive grids which use media queries to change the layout for different viewing device types.

The new site should make it a lot easier to find widgets. All the categories are listed on the home page. Clicking any category tab opens a page with a description of each widget in the pack and clicking any widget icon opens a page demonstrating the widget.

The header has a spyglass icon which opens a modal window to reveal a custom search box. This opens the search results in a modal window which is mobile compatible.

The site itself is responsive so that it can be viewed on computers, tablets and mobile phones.

Please take the time to scan through the Info section to find out how to use these widgets and set up EverWeb for responsive pages.

Although it is possible to create a fully responsive site with EverWeb, I would not recommend this approach in general. It’s a lot smarter to create a full site which can be viewed on computers and tablets and a separate version for smart phone users. This is mainly due to the fact that media files need to be reduced in size and quite often have their aspect ratio changed to make them suitable for phone users.

The full site can use the Hero and Responsive widgets in combination with a suitable responsive header/navigation widget to allow it to spread out as wide is practical using the full width and maximum width controls and reduce down to the width of an iPad in portrait mode by setting the content width at about 780px.

The mobile phone version can use the new Mobile widgets to create a site which is responsive from the width of the largest phone in landscape mode (736px) down to the width of an iPhone SE in portrait mode (320px).

The Blog and Podcast widgets are completely different from the EverWeb blog. They are used to create a responsive blog/podcast and cannot be used with the EverWeb blog. One option would be to use the EverWeb blog for the full site and the responsive blog for the mobile version of the site.
