A lot of users have asked about the slideout links on THIS page and why I haven’t made a widget to create them. The are kind of tricky to implement, use java script and aren’t much use when the page is viewed on a touch device like an iPad or iPhone since they overlap the content area. Now that over two thirds of potential visitors are using tablets and smart phones to surf the ‘net, it is important to design for mobile users first - before even considering laptop/desktop users. There is a need for essential links which must be readily available at all times. Contact info stuck in the header looks ugly and, when placed in the footer, goes largely unnoticed - especially on long pages. This new design for Animated Side Links created for a former client uses CSS rather than java script. They are stuck to the left of the browser when viewed on computers but switch to inline on touch devices and are stuck to the bottom of the device window. There’s a similar design for Share Links for those who need to link to the popular social media sites.
