Viewing Animations Beta

Animations Beta

This is the best Everweb upgrade yet.
Just an observation. When I put 3 logos on a page the I set the left logo to come in on left, centre logo comes in from bottom, right logo comes in from right, all perfect on desktop computers, but on Ipad the right one comes in and the the whole page squashes in to the left side momentarily, eg minimises to left side then becomes normal again. This is not a complaint but may be of interest as this is the beta 2.2.1b I am using. I rectified it by setting all logos to come up from the bottom.
Still looks pretty cool!

You have discovered the Achilles heel of CSS animations. I came across this problem when creating the Animation widgets a couple of years ago. My advice was to avoid using these on the full site unless a separate iPad version was being created.

When I moved on to the Scroll FX animations, quite a few EverWeb users were creating three versions of their site. Here’s the demo suggested for tablet devices.

I’ve been working on some new widgets which will allow more advanced users to compete with features offered by Wordpress and other web design systems. The HERO widgets create more comprehensive full width fixed height items as can be seen in the Demo.

The first item on the page is the Animated Banner. Note that the logo animates in from the right to the far left for maximum effect. If you load this page on an iPad - or the iOS Simulator - you will see that the logo no longer appears to prevent it distorting the page on load. Also, note how the drop down animation on the h1 heading is effected when viewed on a touch device but not enough to warrant a change or removal.

The answer is to be aware of these limitations and to test your pages properly. I know that I keep harping on about this but not enough EverWeb users are testing their full site pages on tablet devices. See THIS page for info about testing.

I know it is more convenient to do a quick test using the browser’s responsive mode but, in the case of animations, you MUST use the iOS Simulator or an actual device.
